Importing from handheld
« on: September 16, 2006, 06:07:54 pm »

How do I import an album from my Nomad 3 to my PC? MC recognizes the handheld and shows me all of the files located on it.  It's really frustrating, though, to right click on the files and the only command is "Delete."  I tried dragging the files to "Recently Imported" but that just results in displaying all of the files as orphaned.  Is is not possible to import from a handheld or am I missing something really obvious?

Also, if the handheld is connected when MC is opened, MC does not detect the device automatically.  I have to disconnect and reconnect the device for it to be recognized.

MC is not designed to pull content off a handheld.  It's interesting, but hairy legally.

Thanks, Matt - at least I know that it's not possible.  On the one hand I can understand the legal implications, but on the other it seems that a handheld  could be viewed the same as any external hard drive or USB drive from which one would import files.

You can copy files from the "My Computer" area in MC.  Dragging files from an iPod to "My Computer" might also work.

WMDM devices don't show as drives so this is more complicated.

You're probably right, Shelly.  We'll think about this.

Matt and Jim,

Just an FYI - Creative MediaSource permits dragging and dropping of files on the Nomad to any drive.  This is a real convenience, when I'm away from home and want to move files from the Nomad to my laptop.  At any rate, thanks for consideration of the request.
