There are plenty of nice skins. Have you looked through this forum for ones released here?
PixOS and Aluminium are my current favourites with the greyscale option. Why make MC into another iTunes clone? make MC something fresh! personally I loathe the iTunes interface... but each to his own

Bump, guess no one is interested?

It's a shame that there aren't any nice skins for such a great program like MC, this is definately one of its main drawbacks over its competitors   :-\

Haha... you're kidding, right?

There are two different iTunes based skins listed on MC's skins page. iTunes itself isn't even skinnable, and from what I've seen, it's "skin" has barely changed at all since they first released iTunes 1.0 (Check out this link to see just how little it's changed over 7 versions). Then tell me what happened to Apple's lauded sense of style when it comes to iTunes? It's easily the ugliest media app out there (well, it might beat foobar). And you think MC needs to look more like iTunes?!?

If i may, i would like to request a skin based on the new iTunes v7 style.
If i knew a thing about coding or designing i'd try to do it, but hope somebody else with more wisdom is interested in giving it go?

Creating skins is very simple (if slightly tedious work).
No coding is required, although you may need to modify the XML
file which is very simple if you look at it, just a case of editing numbers to position
items....

You could take one of the current ITunes skin and update it with graphics
from new version of ITunes, using Printscreen and a graphics editor.
Even Paint would probably be enough.

Heres a screenshot of a skin I'm working on called Intention...

changing colours etc (which i still don't fully understand, but after some playing around you get to grips with it, 00000=black and FFFFFF=white for instance, :P but how to get a specific colour is still beyond my comprehension. tried to scribble some letters and numbers and see what MC interperated it as)

This is something you get in computing quite often.
What you are seeing is a 24bit colour field.
Eight bits is assigned to each of the colours Red, Green, and Blue.
The first two digits represent the 8 bits for Red.
The second two digits represent the 8 bits for Green.
The final two digits represent the 8 bits for Blue.
Hence FF0000 would produce a pure Red
           00FF00                         a pure Green
           0000FF                         a pure Blue
all of them together FFFFFF     pure white
and 000000                             black

Each digit represents a hexadecimal value.
0 through to F, where F is equal to 15 in decimal.
Most graphics packages will show you the value of a colour in this fashion.

F in binary is 1111 which is 4 bits
Hence
FF is 1111 1111 which is 8 bits

24 bits in total gives 16,777,216 possible colours.

By the way, i also made another skin for MC based on deelo's Black Glacier, (maybe i should start a new thread?)
I'll wait on permission from him before releasing it, but in the mean time are there any takers for helping me find any bugs etc? it's still not quite finished, and there are a few things that i would like to do.
  • i havn't been able to adopt a black background for the 'frames' for e.g. of the equalizer etc and still keep the readability on the text everywhere yet
  • nor have i been able to change to colour of the 'playing now/options bar
  • i'm still not satisfied with the cont. shuf. and dsp buttons
here's a screenshot

Sounds good, start a thread! =)
My skin is still underconstruction. Hope to finish it by the end of october.
