MC & W2K Server Lockup
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:03:43 am »

For some time I have been experiencing lockups of my MC PC.  Recently the hard drive crashed and had to rebuild the system.  Since the PC was going to be out of commission during the rebuild I decided the see if I could reproduce the lockups with a fresh load of the OS, drivers and MC.  The problem is still present.  Below is the System Info data from MC, what else should/do I need to provide?

Are you using any third party plug-ins?

Are you sure it's not just building thumbnails?  Try waiting longer.

And then there is hardware....  Memory, for example.  Or a hot CPU.

This thread, linked from the FAQ here, has a long list of problems that have causes other than MC:

No third party plugins.  Just installed MC and updated to the latest version.  When the PC locks the only way to recover is to reboot.  I have Speedfan running and have not noticed any increases in the temp of the CPU.  Also have been running task manager, it reads 2% CPU and very low memory usage at the time of lock up.  The system will run for several hours before locking up.  Any logs I can provide?

Did you try the thread I gave you above?

If the PC is locked that tight, it's a hardware or driver issue.  Even the OS is refusing to budge.
