Can I select a bunch of mp3's and tell it to rename the Album Artist field based on either Artist or Album? I'd rather not do this on an album by album basis.

Check the options you have with Library Tools.  Rename Files from Properties is what you want.  Try a few before you do very many.

Hmmm. I'm not sure that's quite what I want to do. I use the Rename Files from Properties tool all the time so I am familar with it.  All I want to do is rename/fill-in the ID3 Artist-Album property, not rename the mp3 file itself.

Have you tried the "move/copy field" library function?

"Move/Copy Fields" should do the trick.

The ID3v2 standard does not have a tag for Album Artist. MC uses a proprietary comment tag for that info. That file tag may not be usable outside MC.

WMP and the latest iTunes have started to use the ID3v2 "Band/Orchestra" tag for the Album Artist info. If you are seeking for compatibility with those programs you may want to copy the info to the "Band" field too.
