library/db structure v.8 vs v.9
« on: September 10, 2002, 12:04:15 pm »

Due to both hd crashes and a recent motherboard crash, I am basically starting from scratch to re-create all of my music files.

Though a catastrophe, it also present me with some possibillities to correct earlier flaws in ripping, encoding, file structure etc.

Regarding database - would you (matt, nikolay) advice to wait until there is an actual v.9 beta, or wouldnt it matter?

At present I use all three custom fields, I encode in mpc format, so I presently can't use notes or lyrics.

Will there be more expanded options regarding fields, that are not saved in the file but in the database in v.9?

Jesper.

Your best bet is to use version 8 for now.  The database for version 9 is still changing a lot, and you'll probably have to start afresh for each of the next few previews.

Also, MPC should support any database fields in version 9 -- it just needs a minor update and you'll need to enable APE tagging.

Thanks.
