Media Center 12.0.81
« on: September 29, 2006, 04:53:40 pm »

Download:

http://www.jrmediacenter.com/DevZone/CustomApps/MC12/MediaCenter120081.exe

History

12.0.81 (9/29/06)

1. Fixed: Track info visualizations would crash.
2. Fixed: Pressing 'Enter' on a "Back" command on the right of Theater View didn't work.
3. Changed: Spinning picture cube doesn't spin as fast when entering Theater View.
4. NEW: Theater View lists roll, but require two up or down clicks (instead of one) to initiate the roll.
5. Fixed: When Theater View encountered a Direct3D error, it would appear missing instead of drawing an error screen.
6. Changed: Core drawing engine provides nicer results with alpha on alpha drawing. (effects font smoothness in some Theater View skins)

12.0.80 (9/28/06)

1. Fixed: When running multiple versions of MC at once, they could collide when using some plugin types.
2. Changed: Removed a few obsolete settings from Plugin Manager pages.

12.0.79 (9/28/06)

1. Changed: Video thumbnailing runs at a lower priority so it has less performance impact.
2. Fixed: Video thumbnailing could show a crash message in rare cases where a video thumbnail could not be built.
3. Fixed: If "Slim" was entered the first time while MC was maximized, it could fill the screen.
4. Fixed: Edit drop lists for disc number could sort empty and 1 out of order. (remember that emtpy and 1 sort equally in a file list so tracks without a disc number have an implied disc number of 1)
5. Changed: Menu transparency will not be used if the menu overlaps a hardware accelerated window. (3D visualizations, G-Force, new Theater View, etc.)
6. NEW: MP3 (Internet) streams are buffered to allow seeking anywhere as the stream is received.
7. Fixed: iPods not ejecting correctly after sync or on close.
8. Fixed: Some bad image files could cause the player to hang.
9. Fixed: Not able to recognize non-WMDM handheld devices on operating systems that don't support WMDM.
10. NEW: A new WAVE input plugin that handles uncompressed WAV files, including http:// files and files with UNICODE characters in the path. Compressed WAV files will continue to be handled in DirectShow.
11. Fixed: Audible files not tranferring to iPods.
12. Fixed: Shift-End, Shift-Ctrl-End, Shift-Home, Shift-Ctrl-Home now honored in lyric edit control.
13. Fixed: Not reading Audible tags correctly.
14. Changed: Removed "All" items when browsing in Theater View.
15. Changed: Several improvements to the Noire Theater View skin.
16. NEW: New animated Theater View returns -- many performance improvements from previous release.
17. Changed: Once Theater View gets to a "Files" list, pressing Enter will show a menu instead of replacing Playing Now.
18. Changed: When navigating in Theater View, going into a list with only one item will go in to the next level.
19. Fixed: Possible dead-lock with multithreaded skinning.
20. Changed: Reworked how customization is applied to web browser controls to be more reliable.

12.0.78 (9/26/06)

1. Changed: Double-click on the header while in Slim mode returns to Standard View.
2. NEW: Mouse-wheel works to operate the thumbnail size slider.
3. NEW: View header is shown in library views when filtering using the tree.
4. Changed: Tooltips don't show an image when in a thumbnail mode. (since it's redundant)
5. Fixed: When clicking a tree item with no children, it'd scroll down unexpectedly.
6. Changed: For Quicktime video (such as mp4) that is played in DirectShow, we try DirectShow method for thumbnailing before trying Quicktime method.
7. Changed: Time-out for testing whether a file can be played in DirectShow is increased (to avoid unnecessarily hard-killing a DirectShow graph).
8. NEW: Slim skin Mini View has its own window position instead of being a windowshade of the main position.
9. Fixed: Show Start option now honored.
10. Fixed: Action Window pages wouldn't always set the cursor properly. (hopefully fixed -- please let us know)
11. NEW: Introduced new video thumbnail generation system -- please test if you have had video thumbnail problems in the past.

12.0.77 (9/25/06)

1. Fixed: Not all library watch folder settings were being saved as library specific.
2. Changed: Added portable device information to the system information dump.
3. Changed: Lyrics field allowable with videos.
4. Fixed: Media Editor could have an error when pasting regions of a file.
5. Fixed: Some QuickTime audio files would incorrectly show as having an internal image causing issues.
6. Fixed: WAV (and other DX playback type files) would be slower than expected.

12.0.76 (9/22/06)

1. NEW: New art in many areas of the program -- splash, about, icons, etc. (still a work in progress)
2. Changed: Video thumbnailing takes shorter time for some video types. Also, a little more error logging for video thumbnailing and importing.
3. Fixed: The "Debug Viewer" link in the logging dialog was broken.
4. NEW: There is now an "email" link on the logging dialog for sending log files.
5. Fixed: Mouse movement could cause come areas of the program to be overly blinky. (introduced a few builds back)
6. NEW: Gapless playback support for iPods added.
7. Changed: Removed 3D Theater View. (to return at a later date)
8. Changed: After resetting the current log file, a message is displayed.

4. NEW: Theater View lists roll, but require two up or down clicks (instead of one) to initiate the roll.

Thanks Matt!! An excellent compromise  :)

5. Fixed: When Theater View encountered a Direct3D error, it would appear missing instead of drawing an error screen.

Theater View isn't hanging for me anymore when toggling between views but now I'm seeing the following error instead:

                   Error starting Direct3D Engine
                     (Error creating Direct3D Device)

A restart of MC fixes it.

6. Changed: Core drawing engine provides nicer results with alpha on alpha drawing. (effects font smoothness in some Theater View skins)

I don't know... I'm not seeing much improvement here....

Perhaps it's the dodgy video card I have here at work (integrated Intel). Will try it on another machine and let you know.

CPU usage with Theater View idle (nothing playing) hovers consistently around 30%. This seems a little high to me and may bog down a slower PC??

3. Changed: Spinning picture cube doesn't spin as fast when entering Theater View.

This is a good change -- it was rather frenetic before, and a bit distracting.

Quote
4. NEW: Theater View lists roll, but require two up or down clicks (instead of one) to initiate the roll.

Thanks for re-implementing the wrap/roll, but I don't really understand the need for the extra press (I guess it just doesn't come up in the way I use Theater View.)  What is the advantage of needing an extra button press (I'm honestly curious)?  I could see a possible advantage of having the roll "stop" at the bottom of the list if you're holding the button down (so it doesn't "accidentally" wrap) but this does't happen -- if you hold the button down, the extra time it takes to wrap is not even noticeable.

Quote
6. Changed: Core drawing engine provides nicer results with alpha on alpha drawing. (effects font smoothness in some Theater View skins)

I'm not seeing any difference here.

(From build .79:)
Quote
18. Changed: When navigating in Theater View, going into a list with only one item will go in to the next level.

As mentioned before, I really don't care for this behavior, which just causes me confusion and disrupts my navigation in Theater View.

Thanks,

Larry

PS.  Could somebody remind me what the quick key combination is for getting to Playing Now?  I know there used to be a way of doing this (which I used in Theater View) but I can't remember what it is.  Thanks.

Theater view navigation with Girder4 has come right for me.

I don't think it was MC version related, but I re-installed my video drivers for another issue and when I went back to Theater View navigation was quick again.

Go figure!

I'm still getting a crash clicking 'System Info' after portable devices have been detected.
The only portable device is a folder that maintains an mp3 version of my library.

I'm pretty sure this was introduced in build 12.0.80

Build Missing Thumbnails isn't working.
I've got many video files that haven't got thumbnails.
In .75 they were being generated abite slowly, now they're not being
generated at all....

Changed to another library and MC displayed a dialogue
x Upgrading Library

Then the dialogue changed to calculating transfer....
then MC gobbled up lots of memory and windows told me the page file was too small...
Then nothing.... MC Froze...

Terminated MC, reopened MC, and library opens fine....
No thumbnails for anything. Rebuilding them completes in zero time, but still
no thumbnails...

I'm getting only a white screen with a blinking mouse arrow when entering Theatre View.

I get the spinning picture cube (in the original blue/white)  instead of my screen savers and when I press a key I get a totally white screen.

It doesn't happen all the time, but quite often and  once it does I have to Alt-F4 to close MC to get out.

Originally I thought MC had it's own screen saver in Theater View, but then I realised it's the background animation without the Theater View imposed over the top.

1.  Alt-1 Goes to Start? should this be updated to reflect new design
2.  Using [disc #] in thumbnail text does not work
http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=discgoneuj4.png

(In that view I could use [Name] which works(Which I still believe is wrong), but
the effect is global anyhow, where ever you use [disc #] nothing comes up?)
3. There's no hover state for the close button in Frame Windows
4. The following causes a button to remain in the mouse down state even tho the mouse button is no longer down in a Frame Window:
> Click Button
> Move mouse away from button without releasing click
> Once away from button release click
5.  In Display view when Maximized there is no minimize button.
When in windowed display view there is a minimize button,
surely either it has one or it doesn't?
6. When Message Boxes come up the State of buttons is already
in the mouse over state, even though the mouse has never gone over them.
7. Images with EXIF rotate information cannot be resized.
MC says it's skipping them....

Right-click on a menu item on the top bar. The first item is always a "Execute: xxxx" where xxxx is the name of the menu item. Clicking that should open that menu, but if you move the cursor to the right while that Execute item is still highlighted and click it, whatever menu item the cursor is over at that point will get clicked instead of the Execute item. Customize Toolbar on that menu works fine.

------------------

Let's say I have the Playlists menu open and am nested in a few child items. If I close the Playlists tree by clicking the Playlists down arrow, if I open up Playlists again, the tree has been collapsed again and I have to work my way down the tree again to find out where I was. Is there some logical reason why the tree format can't be remembered if closed and opened?

Not sure if this has been reported but I added some icons to the toolbars and a lot of them don't show up with Noire. All the icons that are dark or black need some kind of light outline or glow behind them so they'll show up on the dark skins.

This is not a big issue but it has been around since 11.1. Normally when you type an expression for a smartlist or search and then click away from the field, it turns the text bold if your syntax is correct. Then you can right click to choose 'Edit with wizard' or 'Edit by typing'. But whenever I use [Last Played] for a Smartlist or search it does not turn bold, so I always wonder if I typed it right.

For example:
Code: [Select]
[Last Played]=>=30d
Is that right?

All mine show up almost white untill I hover over them then they turn the proper color. I'm also using the WinXP sp2 msstyles hack to enable desktop themes FWIW.

Many of the buttons do show up white, but not all of them.  The back and forward buttons for example, are all but invisible with Noire if you put them on the bottom toolbar.  I've posted about it before here:

A couple of problems I've discovered in Display View:-

[1] When playing back a video file in Display View, if you bring up a menu (from the menu bar or right click) it flickers repeatedly making the menu items difficult to read. You need to pause playback to stop the menu from flickering.

[2] When selecting the "Crop" aspect ratio for video content on a 4:3 display it fills pretty much the entire screen which is great. If you do this though while the Display view info bar is showing, the video only stretches to the bottom of the info bar and not the top of the screen. You have to wait for the info bar to auto-hide and then re-engage the Crop setting to view fullscreen.

I should have been more specific. The toolbar buttons I can't see are forward, back, refresh, undo, redo, and they are on my top toolbar.

Playing an AVI file in MC12.0.81, video is not presented smoothly, but instead will pause, then stutter, then play a few seconds, then pause/stutter/play again (as if it is not buffering properly). When the same file is played in 'Media Player Classic' the video is smooth and plays properly.

When using a full-screen detached display and stopping (not pausing) the video - the detached display stays active but the display action window (lower left corner) disappears.  The detached display stays active, full screen and blocks the view of any thing else on that monitor.

The display action window does not re-appear if you start up another video from the current play list, but it does reappear as soon as you click anywhere else in the main MC window (like choose a different play list).

BUG report:

The "Display" Action Window is not sizing album art to fit properly -- not even the default "Media Center" icon used when no other art is present.

Theater View issue:

There are still inherent problems with the lower left corner "display" view and the "playing now" view in Theater View.  The "Display" view does not properly resize album art, and it shows the "Track Info" if MC is set up to use this for "Playing Now."  The problem with this is that the "Track Info" simply does not fit in this corner.  On top of this, ,ost of the "Track Info" does not fit into the "Playing Now" screen of the Theater View either (especially when using a resolution that fits on an NTSC monitor.

I use the "Standard" view when at the computer, but the "Theater View" to control MC from the family room (via the TV.)  This creates view problems since I have to constantly change the view options in MC depending on where I'm controlling MC from.  Theater View should have independant "display" settings (i.e. "Playing Now" and lower left corner display settings) so "Standard View" settings do NOT effect "Theater View."   Theater View should also be designed to have the album art, track info, visualization, etc. fit on the Theater View "Playing Now" screen, and the lower left corner display should ONLY offer display choices that will FIT in this corner window, or it should resize the choice to accomodate this space.

Thanks,

Larry
