MJ8 Restoration
« on: September 29, 2006, 01:29:10 pm »

I have read the restoration responses, but they do not seem to fit my circumstances.  I have just returned from a long time illness and am trying to re install MJ8 for which I am a registered licensed user.  I have saved my registration and key from the privious installation as well as the set up file.  When open the set up file it appears to execute through the complete please wait cycle and then does nothing more.  I have gone to the JRiver site and tried to download the MJ8 software and the same thing happens.  This does not happen and has not happened with any of the other software that I have had to install upon my return.  Can you please help?

First download and install MJ8 from our website. Once that is installed, then install your key.

If you cannot download and install MJ8, check your firewall settings.

I checked, www.mediajukebox.com is enabled with no restrictions.  I tried my mj8 setup again and still no action.  I use Kerio firewall.  I am going to reboot and try again.

I finished the reboot and install, same thing no difference.  I hope you can suggest something else to help me get the player going.  Thanks for your time.

Make sure your Using Internet Explorer as Your Defualt Browser, I think 5.5 or newer

you also need to explain any error messages you are seeing and or what happens when you attempt a restore step by step.

I am using IE 6.0 SP 2 with all security updates with XP Professional SP2 updated also.  There are no error messages.  When this is selected it goes through the cycle please wait and when finished it disappears and nothing else happens.  This is what I am using MediaJukebox Version 8 downloaded on 051406 MediaJukebox8.exe.  If you need more information let me know; I cannot think of anything else to include.  Thanks again.

Is Media Jukebox installed? Can you run it? If you cannot, is it a message or is it not installed?

Not installed.  I checked program files and add/delete programs under the control panel, nothing.  The installer never appears for execution after the please wait completes.  No errors, no messages.  I have never experienced this anomaly before and it is quite puzzeling and frustrating as it is for you.  I truly appreciate your time.

Not installed

The program must be installed before you register it.

I did not intend to be insulting, just expressing the pain in trying to get this installed.  It seemed quite appearant that when the selection of the set up goes no further than that action and when I said that the installation part does not appear, that the program will not install.  Enough said from me, I apologize if you have taken offense.

Besides Kerio, which allows mediajukebox.com, I use Super Ad Blocker which also allows mediajukebox.com.  I allow all instances in both programs.  The XP blocker is turned off as is the firewall.  No other software that I use has blockers.  Again I apologise

In Internet Explorer Click On Tools, Internet Options, General Tab, Click On The Button "Delete Files"

the only other problem was

I also remember (and i don't know why this happened to a few users) but they took the mediacenter8.exe file (It Is A RAR File) and Un-RAR compressed it and installed it manually.

I just use the player and the MJ 8 file is an exe file and it shows as an application.  I do not know how to take the .exe file and convert it to rar.  I wish it were a rar, then I could unzip it and go.  I did the delete, I also use webroots washer every hour.  I tried again and the same thing, nothin'.  I did use the process explorer from sysinternals this time and noted that mj8 came up when it started the setup file then it disappeared before the installer was called.  What in the world is plagueing this machine and what am I doing wrong or what is set up wrong?   I cannot think of anything that I have done or not done.  All other software is running as it should.  I am sure it will be something stupid.   I am going to reboot again.  I sincerely appreciate your time.

I wish it were a rar

It is

Load WinRAR Program

Load MediaJukebox8.exe in to WinRAR

You should see the archived files

============================

But not sure this will help you, i had to do it before because of a Anti spyware program i was running at the time. When i stoped the spyware program MJ8 And MC worked fine.

I am sorry that it has taken so long.  I turned off all of my spyware scanners and tried again with the same result.  I also ran the washer again.  It had accumulated a large number of windows temp files since the last wash.  I don't know where they came from, but it took quite a while.  I do not have winrar, but I do have PicoZip.  Will that work?  I am thinking of turning off the firewall to run the exe to see if the installer will work.  I am really hesitant to do that, but that is the last thing I can think of unless the PicoZip will work.  What do you think?

OK, I stopped the firewall and tried it again and again the same thing.  The setup runs, stops, and no installer.  I also tried PicoZip, but the setup file I have for MJ8 was not accepted.

How many bytes in the MediaJukebox8.exe program? When did you download it?

It should be 8,490,050 bytes exactly. If it isn't try downloading again. If it is, let us know here and we'll figure out the next step.

Hi, hope you had a great weekend.  The file is listed as in properties is given as:  Size 8.09 MB (8,490,050 bytes) and size on disk is 8.09 MB (8,491,008 bytes).  I do not understand the difference and I do not know if it has any meaning.  Are both numbers supposed to be the same?  I tried downloading from the jriver site and got the same response.  The preinstaller completed then nothing.

I did not find anything that was relevant.  I have turned off all protection including the firewall and tried installing MJ 8 and it did the same thing.  Run the preinstaller and then nothing no error messages, nothing.

I did.  Most of the articles had something to do with MJ8 or MC crashing which is not my case, since I cannot get it to install.  The area that I thought was the solution was mentioning turning off the scanners and preventers.  As in previous notes, I have turned off everything including the firewall with the same results.  A completed preinstall program, but no installation, no errors, no runs.

What other software is installed? Did you start with a new computer or did it already have other stuff installed?

This is a custom built computer with a lot of software that I would prefer not to list here.  It uses the XP pro SP2 operating system.

I would double-check that you have admin privileges. It seems to be a conflict between MJ and the other software installed. Without knowing more, it's hard to guess where the conflict lies, and it may not have anything to do with MJ...

I definitely have administrator privileges.  I agree with you and probabley the only way to find out is to uninstall all applications and install MJ8 and then reinstall everything else.  I thank you very much for your time, patience, and assistance.

Prime suspects you should remove first:

Firewall (disconnect from network first)
Pop-up blocker
Spam blocker
Virus checker

Reboot.

Here is what I did.  I disconnected the net and shut down all security software.  I then tried the install thinking that I would get some kind of error if it made an attempt to use the installer.  Same result, nothing, no error message, bubkus, nada, etc.  I then rebooted and started the net.  After completing the reboot, I then tried the install, same thing.  Previously, I had shut down all security software and remained connected and it too produced results of nothing.  Because their was no error message when I disconnected from the net and tried the install; I am sure that the problem is within this computer, but I have no idea where.  I know that it is somewhere.....

Shutting down software may not be enough.  Uninstalling and rebooting would be.

But what about other software running?
