I have version 11.1.200 installed on a Vista RC1 machine. When I plug in my ipod shuffle, I get the "ipod type not recognized" error. Here's the debug log file:
0049484: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::Initialize: Start
0049484: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::Initialize: Loading settings
0049484: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::Initialize: Determining iPod type
0049484: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::DetermineIpodType: Start
0049484: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::DetermineIpodType: SysInfo Path: L:\iPod_Control\Device\SysInfo
0049500: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::DetermineIpodType: Failed to load SysInfo file
0051859: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::DetermineIpodType: Ipod Type: Unknown (0)
0051859: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::DetermineIpodType: Finish (2375 ms)
0051859: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::Initialize: Error (invalid iPod type)
0051859: Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::Initialize: Finish (2375 ms)
I have a 512Mb iPod shuffle with model number A1112 and a serial number ending with "...RS9".
In previous versions of MC (I have version 11.1.185 installed on a different XP SP2 machine) the same iPod results in a debug log entry which says:
Handheld: CPortableDriveIpod::DetermineIpodType: Failed to load SysInfo file (probably iPod Shuffle)
The unit works perfectly under this older build of Media Center. However, I don't have this older build installed on my Vista machine so I'm not sure if the problem is related to the newer 11.1.200 build of MC or to Vista.
Exploring the file structure with Windows explorer shows that there is no SysInfo file and in fact, no \iPod_Control\Device directory at all.
