Now that's a coincidence: I'm not satisfied with my imagedatabase-program, so I wanted to look for a better one.

Some questions about this though:
- has it a date-sort or date-stamp option
- slideshow: will it be possible to point just one folder for that show and all the images in that folder AND its subfolders will be used?

yeah, nice, but if MJ can do it too I'd prefer that much more.
One program for different stuff; saves money too.

So: can anyone answer my belowmentioned questions?

Yes.

It is possible now.

You can also do it with a search -- type control f to get the search, type "family", hit enter, and you'll get a slideshow of anything with the word "family" anywhere in the entry.  Similar for a genre.

The second one is pretty easy with the new built-in explorer.  (which can optionally show files recursively)
