Can Monkey's V3.99 be supported?
« on: October 06, 2006, 06:57:19 pm »

Greetings Reader - Been away a long time, so don't know what's been happening & need a quick answer (if poss). I have a few files with the .ape extension that apparently have been made with Monkey's Audio Version 3.99. This version doesn't appear to be supported via my version of Media Jukebox ... see detail below:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.400
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2986 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 1048 MB, Free - 670 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2900.2180
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2900.2180
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2900.2937
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2900.2951
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Can this latest Version 3.99 be imported into Media Jukebox & if so will all the existing .ape files I have still be accessible?

Thanks for any help/advice ... Kindest regards - Rusty (7th Oct06)

I answered to a similar question over a year ago here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=27464.0. The v.3.99 codec can read older versions, but it is not available for MJ8. You can use the separate Monkey's Audio program and MJ8 for converting the files to the previous Monkey's Audio format. The conversion process would be lossless. Check the link for more info.

The last MJ8 build was published in 2003. Since MJ8 was finalized JRiver has released five versions of their newer program, Media Center. MC supports the latest Monkey's Audio codec and probably will always do since the creator of Monkey's Audio works for JRiver.

I would suggest you to try MC. It has a 30-day try out period. Keep in mind that MJ8 is not compatible with MC anymore. You need to uninstall MJ8 first. However, you can make a library backup file with MJ8. The backup file can be restored in MC (and of course in MJ8 if you decide to continue with it).
