Right-Click recent commands - remember between MC sessions?
« on: October 27, 2006, 01:45:13 am »

Hi!

Does anyone think it would be good if MC remembered your Right-Click recent commands between MC sessions.

I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned elsewhere...

I tend to use the same bunch of commands over and over, ie.

Image/Remove Cover Art
Image/Quick Find...
Library/Rename files from properties
Library/Fill track numbers from list order

What say ye?

You're correct that this has been requested before -- I would like this as well.  I tend to use the same commands a lot, so I'd definitely benefit from this.

Make that 11.

Sure LOVE it when an app remembers its state between sessions.

Tried different PHP editors for years, the one I finally stuck with is one that let me close it off mid way through coding a page then re-open it later and it was as if I'd never closed it. Didn't have to save the file, it had all the undo's, all the pages open, etc.
Just makes closing the app something you dont have to worry about doing. They got my business purely for that feature.

Just like a session in Opera.

Thing with MC is, there used to be an option to remember where you were before you closed the session. But that only remembered which view. Can't seem to find it anymore maybe they removed it. Don't miss it that much.

But i feel remembering recently used commands might be more useful.

One of the most popular plugins for Firefox was Session Manager... It's now been built into Firefox because it was so popular.

I think that says alot for how much people like to be able to shut down an app then continue what they were doing later.

There seemed to be a reasonable amount of interest in this feature, and that was about 3 or 4 builds ago.

Any chance this might be considered?

Surely it can't be too hard for the propellorhead software types haunting the corridors of the JRiver premises?

...23 being some esoteric magic number, which I have no clue to the significance thereof?

Perchance some secret numeral, arrived at by a hunched over gnome, using some bizarre calculation with large pencils on small bits of paper in one of the dimly lit broom cupboards at JRiver HQ. Said cupboard has a small slot for the ingress of requests, and egress of results on said small bits of paper. It also has a rectangular hole almost at floor level, whereby a bowl containing some sort of green muck can be shoved through, apparently to prevent the gnome from expiring due to want of sustenance.

What happens if we get another request? Is this the point at which the request gets put on the "too annoying for this year" pile?

Oh, and while we're on the subject - how about possibly just an advanced option somewhere that let MC remember all settings between sessions?
Wouldn't confuse anyone at all as it would be off by default and for those nerds around (or just smart people like us!), it would let them get what they want simply by turning it on.

*cough* apologies for waking this thread up...
I've been wondering...

would it be very hard to make it so that when a command from the mru is used, it moves to the top of the list. this would ensure that the most used commands stayed where we want them, allowing less frequently used tools to naturally drop away from mru list?

I don't like to ask, but if it's an easy thing to switch, it would be very much appreciated.

-marko.

Yeah, that would be nice, most recently used bubbles to the top. Tho i wonder how many will agree, since things are jumping around.

Right now, no matter how often you use a command, its always in a slot depending on when it was called.

If you happen to use a few cmds a lot, then its great. But if you use all in the lst sparingly then the changing order might be disorienting.

hmmm.....

Since there can only be a maximum of 8 recent commands, I don't think the changing order will be too disorienting. I agree with marko's suggestion.

I can go either way on the sorting idea.

I was just thinking the other day how USEFUL the whole retention of recent command is between sessions.  I knew it would be good, but I find it even more useful than imagined.

think this would get very confusing.
Instead of just 'most recently used' which would jump about all the time, how about 'most commonly used' goes to the top.
That way the jumping should be reduced significantly!

Most commonly used to top is the way the Windows XP start menu seems to work...

This would be good...but hey...I'm as happy as a peach just having MC remember the commands in the frist place...
