I like to have the secure rip logs imported into the library so it's easy to check them later if needed.  I can manually import these files into the library, but OTTO doesn't have an option for "log" files, and even when they're created, they apparently don't get "imported" automatically when ripping.  Might this file type be added to the OTTO list, or is there perhaps some other way I could get these log files to automatically import into the library when ripping?

On a related note, I can open the log files on the server by simply double clicking them, but they do not open on the MS client via the library -- I have to manually navigate to them via Drives and Devices to open them.  Is there a way to get MC to open these files on the client using the "library"?

Thanks,

Larry

Since MC can import files into it's library that are NOT in the OTTO list, perhaps there should be an option to add you're own file types to the list.  This way, I could add ".log" files to the list.  Is this already possible -- am I just not seeing how to do this?

Clearly, ".log" files SHOULD be on the list.  Not only can MC handle them, it also CREATES them when doing secure rips.  It seems logical that they'd be inlcuded in the Auto-import list.

Thanks,

I have imported logs manually. I keep everything that is related to an album in the same folder and use MC for organizing all files in the album folders.

I don't use auto-import. For auto-import I would change the extension to ".log.txt" (but that's a manual procedure too).

JRiver could add .log to the extension list and it would be good to have user-defined extensions available.

Obviously you mean MC client.

Obviously you mean MC client.

I was actually referring to "Media Server" when I said "MS," but "MC" would also work.

Thanks for the feedback.  Hopefully, with other people such as yourselves supporting the addition of .log files to MC's auto import options, it will happen.  I wouldn't think that this would be a very complex change.

Thanks,

Yes It Should, That Is A Common Text File Extention

And I Use .Log Files Every Day, I Have Windows Set To Pull Up Note Pad

I have Windows set the same way.

With the Server, it works fine -- I double click a log file in the MC library and it automatically opens in Notepad.  On the client, however, nothing happens when I double click on a log file in the LIBRARY.  When I click on the same file via the "Drives and Devices" tree, however, it opens on the client in Notepad.  There is a bug with trying to open log files via the library on the client.

Thanks again for the feedback,

Just reporting that this is still an issue with build 112.

I guess you haven't tried document files in general. A client cannot open any documents. (I tried txt, log, doc, pdf, xls and htm.)

For me, this is one more reason to not use Library Server. I have recently experienced with the shared database folder system on a wired 100 mbit LAN and it seems promising.

I Just Tried A Text File And MC Will Pull Up A .txt File In Word Pad After It Has Been Imported. I Am Sure The Others Will Pull Up A File In The Associated Program.

It Is just ".Log" is not in the import list, and that is also normally a Text File.

I am wondering if hacking the registry and adding .Log would be possible.

Yes, log should be included in the available extensions.

I have a lot of imported documents. The files work fine in a local library.
This happens when using Library Server & Client:

Wouldn't it just be nice to have an "Other" checkbox in Otto's options where you could enter a semicolon delimited list of extensions for it to import?

That way we wouldn't have to keep complaining at JRiver for the occasional oddball file type that would work, but won't import.  Seems like a better solution than continually adding them "one-off style".

Yes -- that's actually the type of thing I was thinking of.

I kind of figured that other "document" files might behave the same way, but I hadn't tested other types -- thanks for doing this.

What are the differences between the Library Server method of sharing libraries, and the "shared database" method?  I'm not clear on this.

Thanks,

When connected to Library Server, all library files are actually http:// addresses.  Since Windows Notepad can't open an http:// file, it's expected that logs wouldn't open when connected to library server.

However, we were passing the filename as m01p:// instead of http://.  We'll change this next build and it may help for programs like Word that can handle a URL.

Quoting from that thread, this is a problem for me given my directory structure:
