Lost all playlists
« on: October 28, 2006, 11:53:59 am »

I don't really know why, after last update on thursday i lost all my playlists except for Recently Playing Now's, Recently Played and Top Hits.

Did intensive tagging since then so that's why i wouldn't really want to make a "full" restore of a backup so here's the question.

Is there a way to pull out of a backup file only the portion of the "Playlists" section?
Would i mess things around if i just extract of the backup the playlistx.jmd file and put it in the MC directory?

Thanks for any advise.

I would suggest to make a new library by cloning your default one. Then extract the playlistx.jmd from your backup and replace it it in your new library. Check if your old playlists work OK... if you're happy you can repeat the procedure with your default library, if you're not, at least your default library will be intact to test other suggestions.

Thank you for your suggestion Deivit... but i can't still see all my playlists by just replacing the default location's playlistx.jmd file with the one inside one of my backups. It keeps on showing the same default playlists i mentioned.

Perhaps it's related with another file of the database so my guess this is not a trivial task.

Is there any other suggestion to this issue?  It's weird why i lost all my already defined playlists in the first place.

Thanks in advance for any further support.

I believe the file you want is: curplaylist.jmd

Thanks ModelMaker but restoring that file didn't work either.

Jim, is there a way to restore just the playlists from a backup? I'm not that worried cause i know they're there but should i warm up to redefiine them back again from scratch?.

Only Recently Imported, Played, Ripped along with "Top Hits" are being shown.

Hope there's a way to do this...

Restore from one of your old backups.  Backups are made automatically.

Thanks Jim, but what happens is that i've done a lot of tagging to my files since the day my playlists dissapeared and i didn't notice it until a couple of days after that.

If now i restored from a backup i would loose all the changes i made to my files.

Is there an easy or moderate way to just extract the playlists part out of the backups?.

Sorry if i have not been clear enough before.  It's just that english is not my native language.

Thanks one more time!

You could try replacing just the file called playlistx.jmd from a backup.

But backup your current data first.

Better would be to revert to a good backup and go forward.

Maybe it was just me putting the playlistx.jmd in the wrong directory, but what really worked for me was:

1.-  Backing up my library.
2.-  Finding a backup where my complete playlistx.jmd lives in.  Extracting that file and replacing it directly inside the zipped backup made in (1).
3.-  Restoring the "modified" library.

Here i have again all the latest tagging work and my complete playlists back!

Thanks again you all for leading me to the solution.

I wish MC could verify backups, now you get a successful backup msg even if the backup is missing important files.

Well... i can't say that backups aren't being made correctly.  I really don't know how and when exactly i lost my playlists.  I presume it was after a release update.

Actually and fortunately because backups are working correctly it was pretty straighforward to restore the missing portion of the information.

In this post you saw another user who lost his playlists. I'm wondering if there's more people with the same issue.
