How to remove empty folders?
« on: September 07, 2002, 09:03:02 am »

After renaming artists or album names then using MJ to create folders based on the new artist or album names a number of empty folders are left behind.  What is the best way to search for and remove them?

That should happen automatically in the last several builds.  It was added about two weeks ago.  It will ask.

Does anyone know of a way to remove orphaned empty sub-folders that MJ didn't know about?

AFAIK, library update doesn't remove empty folders.  At least, I couldn't find a reference to this ability in the help files or dialogs.

I thought 'Update All Database Fields' might do it. Haven't checked it out yet but will.

You can delete empty folders by right clicking on the folder and then deleting it will ask you to confirm as a double check

I use a command line utility called "red" abbreviation for "remove empty directories". It works very good and only for this single purpose. You might find it with google and if you don't I think I can post it to a website (it's freeware, so it should be no problem).

I found a thing called ASMW Optimizer http://www.asmwsoft.com/ (30 day demo) which did find and allow deletion of empty folders (I
had over 500 of em!).

At least 8.0.365 does not ask to remove empty folders after renaming files to a new folder/subfolder.
