WaveOut vs. Direct Sound
« on: June 01, 2003, 08:20:21 pm »

My system runs XP with Creative SB Audigy. I output to a stereo receiver.

Should I be using the Direct Sound or Wave Out setting?

What bit depth?

What about the Performance Slider? What are the criteria for adjusting that?

TIA

i Have same setup. I use direct sound. I set to 24 bitrate in MJ. I use the creative mixer (EAX Tab) to set my music EQ preferences rather than MJ. it seems to sound better. it also takes the EQ load off the processor as the card does the work instead.

hope this helps.

Thanks for your feedback.

My not so "golden ears" concluded Direct Sound sounded better. I was using 32 bit.

I just upgraded to MC 9. I find that if I set Direct Sound to 24 bit there's no sound. Nada though the track shows to be playing. At 32 bit all is well.

I have SB Audigy selected as the Playback Device.

I had concluded that DSP Studio Equalizer/Effects cast a bogus shadow on the sound. I've never fooled much with Creatives annoying EAX bar other than to hide it. I'll give that a shot.

Again, I appreciate your reply.
