Transfer tag properties when convert format?
« on: November 13, 2006, 02:27:42 pm »

MC11 doesn't transfer any tag properties to the new file when convert an audio from one format to another, does MC12 do that?

How did you arrive at this conclusion?

Both program versions tag files on conversion if the used audio file formats are internally supported and tagging is not disabled in options.

It doesn't if the tag is only in the library but not the file.  For instance, audio tracks imported from a cue/ape combination.

I guess my question should be, does it transfer tag properties if the new file format supports it.

Your "for instance" happens to be about the only format that does not support what you requested. You should have mentioned the file format in your first post.

Wave format is another internally supported format that MC cannot tag. However MC can correctly tag other formats directly from library data when wave files are converted.

I have requested a fix several times.

For example:

Cue tracks can be converted to separate track files. This is a nice feature if you have a long audio file with cue based track info (e.g. radio show/live/vinyl recording) and you would like to split it to track files for e.g. a portable player.

However the track info data does not follow. MC cannot pull tag info from library data and apply the info to the converted files. Because MC can do this when standard wave track files are converted I guess you would just need to activate the same switch when cue tracks are converted.

I thought that I could use the "update database" conversion option as a workaround. The library info could be physically applied to the converted files later and the "source file name (1), source file name (2), etc" filenames could be fixed to be more descriptive.

As a test I converted a bunch of cue tracks to track files with "update database" enabled but after this conversion the library data was still linked with the old filename and format info. Obviously this does not work with cue tracks as it should.

The following is perhaps more a feature request than a bug fix request, but would it be possible to make the converter pull tag info from the library fields when cue tracks are converted? Perhaps you could use the same system that is used when standard wave files are converted as I explained in my previous cue bug report.
