Tagging field with multiple items give inconsequent behaviour
« on: November 23, 2006, 02:09:32 am »

Hello,

I started to tag my movies and made a field ""actors".
When adding actors I get when using 2 actors something like this:

David Soul; James Mason

But when having 3 actors I get this:

David Soul
James Mason
Lance Kerwin

The last way I find nicer so why is this not with 2 items (actors)

I like:

David Soul
James Mason

over

David Soul; James Mason

Also I would like to know if there's a way to set an option to a maximum of items listed before you get this:

David Soul
James Mason
Lance Kerwin
...

I would prefer an option so I can watch all actors when in tagging mode. (I guess by setting a maximum)
I DON'T MEAN WHEN IN MODE TO ADD ACTORS IN THE ACTORS BOX

BTW I have two movies with the same 5 actors, when going from one movie to the other I get a different list. It's not alphabetical but it doesn't show the same actors first either.

Regards,

Theo

UPDATE

Strangely when haviong two actor with a "longer" name it's put under each other. When using two "short" names it puts it after each other...

Alan Arkin & Alec Baldwin is put like this:

Alan Arkin; Alec Baldwin

but Alan Arkin & Alicia Silverstone gives:

Alan Arkin
Alicia Silverstone

I think you've solved it! I wondered why sometimes it would display the string, and sometimes it would be the list...

I also notice that when a multiple choice box appears, then you can only select existing infos, but cannot add new tag info.

Sample: If  I am presented with a choice of A, B and C, I can select any of them, but not add a new tag "D". I have to revert to the panes adding new tags mechanism.

I also don't understand, why sometimes  I get a multiple choice box and sometimes just a field displaying selected items after entering a few characters.

Maybe it's the difference between standard field and list field, but really don't understand the reason. If you have hundreds of entries, the multiple choice box is really not the best way of selecting tags (examples: field "Places" and People" with literally hundreds of entries).

In the Tag window, there's an "Add New Tag" button at the bottom when you zoom-in on a list field.

As for whether a list is on one line or multiple, we intentionally base the decision on the length of the items in the list.  A lot of people complained that a list of short items was taking too many lines.
