How to convert XML Library export data into list of Albums and Artists?

I've  been playing around with the XML export option, under the library menu.

Is there a simple way to transform the XML data into just a list of albums & artists?

Search/Replace from www.funduc.com can transform anything into anything. You can create search/replace scripts to run as batch jobs. Unfortunately not freeware, but worth the money. I use it all the time to convert csv files into mpl playlist which I then import into MC12.
Some templates are available like htm to text conversion.

It may be better to export to txt, mpl or html format with the export playlist feature.

This is not a very sophisticated solution, but it is what I do to get an album list.
