Failed to install package
« on: November 25, 2006, 11:50:52 pm »

I have been receiving the following messages after updating to the latest versions of 12.0 Beta and then rebooting.

Failed to install package.
More Info: Failed to register object.
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Plugins\server_pebcast.dll
URL: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Setup\NONE

Failed to install package.
More Info: Failed to register object.
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Plugins\enc_mpc.dll
URL: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Setup\NONE

Does anyone know what may be causing these two plugins to not register correctly?

I have version 12.0.119 installed and previous updates were giving me the same two messages.

No idea, but you might want to try completely uninstalling MC -- reboot -- reinstall.  Also, try disabling any anti-spyware or anti-virus apps you have running during the reinstall just to see if they're blocking it somehow.

Anything unusual?  Vista?

Nothing unusual.  Windows XP, Service Pack 2.

I will try disabling the anti-virus software later this week and then report on the outcome.

Well I tried disabling my anti-virus software, then fully uninstalling Media Center 12 and rebooted.
After logging back in, I disabled the anti-virus software again and re-installed MC12.
After rebooting again, I got the same two messages as before:

Failed to install package.
More Info: Failed to register object.
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Plugins\server_pebcast.dll
URL: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Setup\NONE

Failed to install package.
More Info: Failed to register object.
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Plugins\enc_mpc.dll
URL: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 12\Setup\NONE

Are these files critical to MC?  What are these two library files used for?

neither are critical. One is for "perbcasts" and the other is the encoder pack for mpc files. If you don't use either of these, you can forget about them.

Thanks modelmaker.

I've always been the type to try and figure out how to solve errors I get.  Even if it meant uninstalling and re-installing software.  And at thsi point, I'm not sure what is causing the two error messages.  I've tried many things...even cleaning out my Windows registry of JRiver, percast, mpc related entries after uninstalling.

That didn't work.  So something is preventing the completion of the registration.

Since these two are not critical, then I'll have to simply ignore the errors every time I update MC12....unless that is of course someone has another idea to try.

Thanks again.
