The Next & Previous Chapter buttons in Display view have a mouse over tool-tip that claims to "Hold to Fast Forward".  I wonder if it is just me, but this has not worked in MC12 so far...

It should work with anything that has a duration. (and maybe doesn't have chapters)

Could you try a simple audio file like a local APE or MP3 file?

You can also use Ctrl+Left/Right (rewind / fast forward) and Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right (jump back / forward).

but surely it should work with chapters as well... siingle click for next chapter, click and hold for fast forward?

Just to be a little more specific...  The Fast Forward button is fine with Audio; I was referring to video use only.

I can not see any difference between audio and video. The buttons work the same way for both. If you hold down one of the buttons, the progress bar moves quickly. You can release the button when the progress bar reaches to point you want to go. Then audio or video will jump to the desired location.

absolutely. From a user [interface] perspective  the application should consistent no matter what it is playing back.

I agree it should be consistent.  However, holding down the Fwd or Rew does nothing for my particular installation of MC whilst watching a video.

While I have never had a problem with the Fast Forward/Rewind hold method, I would really prefer a separate button for these features.  I think a button that increases or decrease the speed of the fast forward,  For example, click once x2 speed, click a second time x4 speed.  Other DVD players like PowerDVD and WinDVD have this feature.  I use the WinDVD decoder for my MC, but it does not take advantage of this feature.

There are key combinations for that purpose. CTRL+Left or Right Arrow.

When you release the button, the video skips forward.  Whilst pressing the button, the video keeps on playing at normal speed.

I have never had my FF and FR buttons to work properly, both in audio, and video. When I click on a button the slider moves foward as you might expect, but the music or video continues to play at the normal speed. It is only when I release the button does it jump foward to the new spot. If I use the Ctrl and arrow keys, video works but it plays at 100X speed. I could not find any settings for this, so I assumed it was a work in progress, and would soon be fixed.

That is by design. It works this way for both audio and video. To do "real" fast forward, use key combination CTRL+Right Arrow, or remote control.

CTRL+ARROW for video (all three types - DVD, TV, and video file) works like this:

Pressing the keys once, video plays at 5x speed,
pressing a second time, video plays at 20x speed,
pressing a third time, video plays at 100x speed.
Additional pressing of the same keys will have no effect (video continues playing at 100x speed).

To resume normal play, press the opposite CTRL+Arrow keys, or press Play/Pause keys.
