UPnP Problems with 12.0.130
« on: December 19, 2006, 10:10:27 pm »

I took the plunge to upgrade from MC11 to version 12 and cannot get the UPnP media server functionality to work with my Soundbridge. Tree traverses work fine, but nothing will actually play. Here is a sample log:

12/19/06 21:48:17 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.44 starting...
12/19/06 21:48:18 - UPnP Media Server Device started on port 10684
12/19/06 21:48:18 - Running
12/19/06 21:50:28 - GET request of /DeviceDescription.xml
12/19/06 21:50:28 - Received request for device description
12/19/06 21:50:34 - GET request of /DeviceDescription.xml
12/19/06 21:50:34 - Received request for device description
12/19/06 21:52:13 - GET request of /DeviceDescription.xml
12/19/06 21:52:13 - Received request for device description
12/19/06 21:52:25 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 0()
12/19/06 21:52:52 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 14(Audio\Operas)
12/19/06 21:52:54 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 16(Audio\Operas\Aida Disc 1)
12/19/06 21:52:58 - Browse BrowseMetadata 100734.mp3()
12/19/06 21:52:58 - GET request of /Music/100734.mp3
12/19/06 21:52:58 - Handling MediaServerDevice request: /Music/100734.mp3
12/19/06 21:52:58 - Sharing (with conversion): \\Leora\music\Music\CD\Giuseppi Verdi\ Zubin Mehta, conductor\Verdi  Aida (disc 1)\Giuseppi Verdi - Zubin Mehta, conductor - Preludio.mp3
12/19/06 21:52:58 - Received request for file: \\Leora\music\Music\CD\Giuseppi Verdi\ Zubin Mehta, conductor\Verdi  Aida (disc 1)\Giuseppi Verdi - Zubin Mehta, conductor - Preludio.mp3

UPnP Server options have been set to always convert audio (also tried convert audio if necessary), encoder: MP3 encoder, receiver: Soundbridge.

I have tried to run the Library Serve as well but get the following logs:

12/19/06 22:02:09 - JRiver Library Server Version 1.0.33 starting...
12/19/06 22:02:09 - Failed to start sharing

When I hit the Start server button, I get the same log entries and then when I hit the Stop Server button MC crashes.

I have MC12 installed in Windows Server 2003 as was MC11.1 which worked fine. Although MC11.1 was working with a library previously created on a Windows XP box.

Help please.

Can you make a sniff with Ethereal?

E-mail it to me at gateley @ jriver.com

Try turning off the conversion feature as I had the same problem. Once I disabled that, everything appeared to work just fine.

But conversion is supposed to work... same thing: can you make a sniff and send it to me (with conversion turned on and broken)?

I installed Ethereal and settled in for some work on this problem this evening.... only to discover that the UPnP server is now working just fine. The only anomaly I've noticed is that on the Soundbridge there are two libraries called "leora (Media Center)" one works, but the other doesn't. I presume one is left over from MC11.

Any idea why this would be?

Seems likely to be a Roku issue, but I thought I would ask here as well.

I moved on to testing Library Server access from a number of PCs around the house. They refuse to connect to Library Server, which is set to run on Port 2003 without any other type of authentication (and worked fine under MC 11.1). I may be missing something basic, but in the event I'm not, I've emailed you a snif.

Note that I also get the crash noted above with respect to Library Server:

"When I hit the Start server button, I get the same log entries and then when I hit the Stop Server button MC crashes."
