Cool Feature Idea -- Flash Slideshow Generator
« on: December 20, 2006, 08:45:09 am »

I was just thinking... At work today we were looking for a way to take a set of pictures and create a quick Flash slideshow for use on the web.  Wouldn't it be super cool if you could do this in MC?  Just select a playlist of photos (or just a set of photos in a view scheme) in MC and have an Export to Flash Slideshow tool?  You could give options to include some music in the background, choose transitions, and slide "timing"...

In fact, it would be SUPER cool if the generator actually had a setting that could set the play duration of the individual pictures to "fit" the currently selected background song!  (DVD Studio Pro can do this with it's image slideshow feature and it rocks!)

I thought this would "go" well with the new web gallery functions...  It shouldn't be too hard to implement.  There are plenty of simple online generators out there, so I can't imagine it's too hard to design.

Excellent! Count me in. Once we get these sorted, can we get some neato flash templates too? ;)

Have you seen how Elements 5 has done this? Very slick indeed.

I have not.... I'm still stuck back on Elements 3.  I spent all my Adobe money on CS2.

That flash slideshow looks nice and would be a good addition to MC. So marko and glynor, since you both have Elements, what do you use to organize your photos? I am using the organizer in Elements but it's getting a little too slow for me...really thinking about using MC now.

I have Elements 4 (just trialled v5 for the sake of nosiness) but I use MC exclusively atm.

The new image related stuff in MC 12, coupled with some creative expression based thumbnail captions, view schemes, auto-import and tagging workflows is really working well for me right now.

I did begin to document the system I'm using here, but I didn't realise how involved it actually was untill I sat down to write it up. The system I use developed across several months and relies upon things such as the filenames themselves as well as a few custom library fields and view schemes. I really should go back and finish that, but I think it will be an 'advanced user' thing only. I'll need to assume the reader knows how to create the necessary fields and schemes, and is able to follow what I've done and apply any tweaks needed for it to fit their own environment.

The monotonous, time consuming part is laying those foundations, but once done, you can forget about them and get on with enjoying your photos. I have "Stacks" and "Version Sets" working with MC! ;) :)

I have Elements 3 and Adobe Bridge, but I use MC exclusively as well.  It's simply a lot more flexible, and it can handle my video clips as well which is a huge plus.

My system is a lot less complicated than Marko's.  I suspect that if he ever finishes that manifesto (the wiki would be a good place to stick it) that my system would improve greatly...

Thanks for the replies. Yes, from the little I've played with images and video in MC, I think it should work nicely. The ability to create new tags for any possible need is certainly a plus in addition to the new web gallery possibly replacing what I use today. I saw someone mention about having a separate library for photos & video but I guess I'll see if that's necessary when I get all mine added to see if it's slower. I look forward to marko's wiki addition.  ;)

When they started to support images I asked about this, never got a reply.

I guess at that time, and maybe still, it was not on there chalk board of things to do.

I saw that request from you earlier after I'd made my post (I was looking up how you did the ones on your web site).

It would really be a nice feature!

I would say I am about 95% satisfied with the way I can manage images with MC12. I have by now over 31'500 images and MC12 handles them very well.

The few things I miss are:
1) Better configurability of the display in slide shows, especially for captions (described in Beta Team forum)
2) Possibility to have complete playlists to be set as rotating wallpapers.
3) Possibility to have complete playlists to be set as screensavers
4) Possibility to burn complete playlists on a CD/DVD together with some menu frame, maybe in a way that could be handled by stand-alone DVD player.

I like the new way of development with the possibility to send images directly to a web gallery.

When i looked at bridge some time back, it looked strikingly like an older version of MC.

Older and crappier.
