I'm interested in buying version 9 but would like to get started with version 8.  If i purchase version 8 do i automatically get an upgrade to version 9?  What is the upgrade policy?

Version 9 is a long ways off.  It's too early to say what we'll do with licensing.  All I can say now is that we'll do our best to be fair.

I understand that, however i suggest you come up with a (fair) policy now, so there is no ambiguiuty.  There is nothing more frustrating than purchasing software and having it become obsolete a few weeks later.  I suggest that you either include the upgrade right to the next major version or make upgrades time bound (my preference) so that I effectively am paying an annual subscription.

This is particularly relevant for this type of software becuase the switching costs are very high.  It will also encourage folks to buy now and therefore increase your R&D funding.
