Install Problem-
« on: January 02, 2007, 01:52:55 am »

You can only restore 10 times in a year.  In 4 minutes i've used two restores.  I paid and got my product key- then clicked on it and box came up asking if i would like to restore from a file or the internet.  When i click on internet i am put into a loop.  I am shown a place to enter my key and yeah- a loop another box asking about restoring from a file or the internet.  When I click on file- i have no idea what to look for- what am i supposed to find?  I wish i could get a phone number so i could just talk to someone rather than writing an epic poem about the situation- otherwise could someone type me through this?

Welcome to Interact.
When you restored a license you should have been given an MJR file which is the license key.
Failing which, both should have been emailed to you.  I think it's supposed to automatically register,
but in rare cases this doesn't work for some reason.
When you load MC you can select to manually open the MJR file, which will register your copy of MC.
Each key lasts something like 15 days.

A support line wouldn't help you to much at the moment, since in Minnesota where the App's developed it's still about 6am.

The forum works out pretty well with most questions getting answered fairly quickly.
There are alot of regular users from all around the world that spend time here, with much more knowledge
than a couple of guys on the end of the phone could provide.
JRiver figures using support forums they can spend more time/money developing the product.
The JRiver staff also spend a lot of time on the Forum resolving questions.

If you have more problems, just keep posting!  :)

I like epic poetry....

When you purchased, the license should have installed automatically. Start Media Center, click Help->Registration Info, are you registered?

It's strange that clicking on the license key asks about restoring from the internet or a file. Do you by any chance have Media Jukebox 7 (or previous) installed?

I don't have a previous copy installed on the cpu, just the trial copy.  It no longer works because i'm out of my 30 day window (could that be the problem?). When I click on Media Center- I get the dialog box that says 'This feauture is not available. Your 30 Day trial has expired.'  Underneath i have the buttons- Buy Now, Tell Me More, and Restore.  How do I manually open the MJR File?

I'm going from memory here, it's while since I had to use a restore,
but I think when you press restore, it gives you the option
to restore from internet or restore from file (mjr).
Select restore from file, then find the mjr file and that should do it.

The 30 day trial is unlocked and becomes the full version of Media Center.

What OS are you running? Are you running as an administrator?

If you don't have a copy of the license key, do a restore process again (don't worry about using the restores), and right click on the Registration Code and save it as a file. This is what you need if you must try several times.

There's a FAQ here:

The FAQ listed above by gateley is a pretty complete source of information.  Please try reading it carefully.

that was sarcastic- i've read the FAQ many times- it seems to me that the problem may be that i can't find the file i'm supposed to use to restore the lisence (.mjr). if this is the problem- is there a way to fix it?

Use IE to restore.

Check your e-mail.  You should receive the mjr file by e-mail.  Check your spam filters.

Use the right click work-around to save the mjr file to your desktop.  Then execute it there by double clicking.

Maybe this is too hasty, but I haven't received anything in my e-mail, are you talking about a previous e-mail? the purchase confirmation e-mail?
