OK,  I have Media Center 11 installed on my XP laptop.  Music is stored on a Linkstation Pro and Media Center has imported this into its library.  I have a Dlink DSM-520; but no matter what I do I cannot get the Media Server to be recognized.  This has never happened to me before... I have Windows MP, Twonky, Tversity all running.  They all came up right after starting the server.

Update - found a Windows Firewall block... so now the device is seen by the DSM 520 - just won't play anything... hanging at start up of any mp3 play.

I know from viewing other postings that the DSM-520 is working elsewhere.... anyone offer help - spent 5 hours on this today (Merry .....  ).

Should work: make sure the files play in Media Center, and try both with and without conversion.

Tried both with and without...  and files do play in MC.  The song and all tags display properly in DSM520's on screen window, no it doesn't appear the data is being streamed to the 520.  I love the interface, and have been looking for the "perfect" Media Server.  Twonky works, but the interface is awful.  JMC is visually similar to iTunes (good or bad, its recognizable).  Thanks for trying.


I was reviewing another thread and appears I have tripped over a problem that was brought up about 6 months ago - I'm pasting in one reply.... so if I install the MC beta, this may fix it?  I did try the install of MC12, but it appeared not to see any of MC11's Library - is that normal?  It will have a couple of hours possibly to have MC12 see the whole NAS;  I'm willing to try if this will work...  THANKS!

Fixed in MC 12.0.109 or higher.

Thanks EVERYONE for the help. It turns out it was a very simple fix once I had one in house...

Sorry, didn't read carefully enough. Yes, do try MC12, that should fix it. I can't remember at the moment what fix I did, but I'm almost positive that MC 11 doesn't have it.

This worked!!  Thanks... had to do a little work to get MC12 to find the existing library (actually went for a backup since it was easier to restore).  Would be nice if MC12 installation at least gave the option to locate prior libraries.... OK that's not picking.

I assume that if I were to buy a license, I would buy MC11 and then install the Beta using the same license code....   Thanks again for following thru on this.

Whether you purchase MC11 or MC12, you are getting an MC12 license. So it will work with both.
