I have found this annoying too. In WinDVD I can fast forward 2x->40x through a video. The only option we seem to have in MC12 is to use the time bar, which is very hard to use accurately if the video is of any length, or skip to the next chapter.

Still the way MC12 handles dvd playback is a tremendous improvement over previous versions.

If you're using a mouse, try using the scroll wheel while the mouse is over the position bar. (Scrolling while on the video image will zoom)

Scrolling up will increase movie playback speed by 5x, 20x, 100x. Scrolling back down will drop it straight back to normal speed.

When playing at normal speed, scrolling down rewinds at incremental speeds also, and scrolling back up will jump back to normal playback.

Using an MCE remote, the fast forward / rewind buttons do the same...

Hope I made this clear....

There are several ways to do fast forward / rewind:

1. CTRL+Right Arrow / Left Arrow

Pressing the combo once for 5x speed, twice for 20x speed, three times for 100x spped. Pressing the opposite combo resumes normal play.

2. CTRL+SHIFT+Right Arrow jumps ahead for 30 seconds.

3. Click and hold down "Next" / "FF" button, until the desired position is reached. When releasing the button, video should jump to the new position.

Methods 1 and 2 can be mapped to remote control keys. See also this thread for another discussion.

Note that some video files are not seekable.
