Default Browser (Firefox / IE)

BUG: MC v12.0.130

Ive noticed that MC launches links in IE, whereas I have my default browser set to Firefox. Is there a way you can change this setting? Or is it hardcoded in?
Not a major bug, but an annoying one as I loathe IE  ;)

EDIT: also is there any way to allow cookies/autofill within the MC browser? This may be pushing the bounds of a media player into that of a web browser, but it would be a useful feature.

I noticed that as well!  I was gonna say something but didn't get around to it until now reading your post!  Good job!  I strongly dislike IE!

I just switched to MC12, and am amazed that Firefox is not supported.  ?

People are leaving IE by the train load and going to Firefox.

Sure would be nice to have MC12 support Firefox. :)

Hint Hint.....  ;)

They use a drop in IE Renderer, which may choose
to open IE for links.

There maybe licensing issues with using Firefox.
Besides which what's the point?  I doubt people
are going to start doing there main browsing from
within Media Center?

I hardly even used the browsing in MC until a few weeks ago when I realized I could -- look up music, etc.  I still prefer Firefox.

Why can't Media Center just use the standard Open Web Link so its the users decision as to what browser to use--by setting the DEFAULT browser.  Why would MC hard code the web link opening to use IE?!  That doesn't go along with following standards and utilizing what the OS provides.

I too use FF2 as my default browser, but never thought about this much as I don't do browsing from within MC.  So I decided to try it.  I like it.  I sure I would not do all browsing from within MC, but it definitely has appeal.

As for multi-browser support in MC, I don't have a strong opinion. While I use FF2 as my default, I fully expect to use IE as well.  I just accept it as reality. JRiver has to consider this is part of their investment plan - where should they put the development time.  It's not really about FF, it's the browser strategy.  If they support FF, what about Opera, or ....? The biggest part of multi-browser support is research and testing.  Also, there is no choice about IE.  Even if some people don't like it, it has to be supported.

I think there is a bit of confusion here.  What are we actually hoping for?  I was simply referring to when you click a link to open a web browser in an external program.  I don't care that MC uses IE as its internal browser.  That works fine because its definitely installed on every computer and like I said, I really don't use MC's browsing much because of limitations and just generally because I prefer what I know.

Got it. You are refereing to opening a link.  I agree, that should not be hardcoded to IE.  It should honor your internet options.

I also agree with you regarding the internal browser - IE is fine.  BTW, I've been using it this morning and basically don't like it for browsing:
1) Navigation is just foward and backwards
2) No multiple tabs
3) No way to enter a URL
4) No home
5) No favorites

I'm not complaining, It's clear that this feature is not intended to be your working browser.

Maybe clicking the artist info link should just open your default browser with what you requested.
