DVD's audio at half?
« on: January 04, 2007, 09:54:16 pm »

Whenever I play back my ripped DVDs, the audio always (no matter what player) seems to play back at about half.  In my volume setup, I have to turn my computer to 100% for a decent level but with standard music or about any other source I can think of, 50-60% is plenty.

check the properties audio decoder you use in the dvd configuration. i use the cyberlink audio decoder, and when i double click it and i go to miscellaveous, i can change the dynamic range compression. that could help. i guess other decoders could have something similar,

Right.... What DVD audio decoder are you using?  If you're running it through FFDSHOW it's trivial to up the volume.  I don't use it myself, but I'd guess that there'd be a way with AC3Filter (and most other filters) as well.

I think I'm using Cyberlink so I'll go find out and then look in the settings.

I have similar issue with DVD audio and I have played around with at least 6 audio decoders. All but one have this problem. DVD audio volume is too low. The only one that doesn't have this problem is Sonic Cinemaster Audio (came with Sonic Cineplayer). I have tried ATI audio decoder, PowerDVD, WinDVD, Nvidia and the one that comes with JR Media Center - and all of them play DVD at half the volume.

I must have misunderstood. I have about 6 audio decoders showing up in the audio filter list and I am not sure where they all come from :).
