'Fill Properties from Filename' terms?
« on: September 02, 2002, 02:08:56 am »

I'm using 'Fill Properties from Filename' to fill in ID3 tag info but can't get it to work the way I want it to.  I checked the Help but can't find the info I want.

Is there a complete list of the labels to use to map parts of the filename to the tag?

I get some from the drop down, but how do I map to Custom1, Custom2, Custom3, and the fields with '*'s in their description?  Some that are found are: ALBUMARTIST; GENRE; ALBUM; TRACK#; YEAR; IGNORE; ARTIST; NAME - but what are the others?

This isn't an area I know very well, but try typing in the field you want.

Experiment carefully.

I have experimented carefully; without results.

Perhaps you could pass this on to someone who does know this area well?

Try these:

CUSTOM1 CUSTOM2 CUSTOM3

If they don't work, well, they may not be supported.  If you need them, we can add them to the next build of 8.0. (it's a super quick change)

Just let us know...

I tried CUSTOM1 CUSTOM2 CUSTOM3, but it doesn't work.  Could it be because I've renamed the custom fields?  I tried using the new names, but had no success with that either.

Yes, please.  I'm about to re-rip my CDs and would like to import info from the filenames into the CUSTOM fields and also into the fields whose descriptions end with " *".

Pardon my ignorance but if neither JimH nor Matt knows, who the heck DOES know?

No offence intended, really, but my guess is that JimH knows a lot more about running a business than he does about the guts of the programming; that's why he has a team to do that.

It appears to me that different functions of the program are assigned to different people, making the product a real team effort.  It could be that the expert in this point got to take the (US) holiday off.  Maybe a more detailed answer will come tomorrow.
