Cannot play DVD's
« on: February 02, 2007, 02:13:29 pm »

Hi there,

I'm just trialing MC12 and cannot get DVD's to play.  They stop with the following error:

"Key Exchange for DVD copy protection failed"

I've read through many of the previous posts on the subject  but nothing has worked.

DVD's play fine in PowerDVD 5 as well as a couple of other Media Centres I'm demo'ing (TVEdia & MediaPortal) but MC seems much better so would like to get it working before making my choice on which one to purchase.

I've tried manually setting the Video Decorder option in DVD Configuration to 'Cyberlink Video/SP Decorder' which I guess is what PowerDVD uses, but still does not work.

I'm running WinXP SP2 all updates.

THanks in advance for any help  :)

Is there any more information I can provide so as to make it possible to find a solution?

Perhaps, MC can be put in a kind of debug mode so as to give more verbose information as to where the problem is?

Thanks again.

I get this error too. I also can play successfully in WMP, though.

Please take a look at this thread if you have not done so yet.

Things to do (not in any particular order):

1. Reinstall your DVD application.

2. Reinstall DirectX 9.

3. Choose correct video/audio decoders in MC (experiment with different choices).

4. Uninstall third-party CD/DVD application that runs in the background.

5. Install CCCP package.

6. Make sure your DVD drive is set to correct region.

5. Install CCCP package.

Thanks Yaobing,  installing CCCP appears to have fixed it.
