Try doing small batches of files.

Also, try doing one type at a time. (mp3, ape, avi, etc.)

Let us know if you find the problem file.  A bad plugin or DirectX filter are common causes for this.

Thanks.

One way to narrow it down might be to use MC's logging feature.  Go to:

Help --> Logging and enable Output to a log file and at least "Import" under Types of events to log.

Then, manually run an "Auto Import" by configuring a folder for MC to search, and then choosing Tools --> Run Auto Import Now.  When MC crashes, re-launch it and go back to Help --> Logging and then click the View link next to Previous Log.  The last or second-to-last file listed in the log should be your culprit.

the same thing happened to me, i am going to test the new 157 build and if the bug still persists i will be going back to version 11, i can't even run version 12 properly, everything hangs/freezes!

edit: just installed version 12.157 and all the bugs are gone, well done, i am happy now.

Again, if you could help by providing a log, your problem could likely be easily solved.

jalaneme, you reported audio scrobbler crashes in another thread.  Uninstall third party plugins when experiencing problems to eliminate them as a possibility.

yes i did manage to remove audioscrobber, and yes all the stuff that was problematic has been fixed now, auto import, freezing, and going into options and selecting library and folders are all fixed :D

great, it's starting again  ? i was applying skins and trying to bring the stop button back on the display and it gave me a critical error #30!! for gods sake *grrr*

edit: i think I've learnt that version 12 does not like previous version skins at all and that's why i am getting these errors, can someone else do what i am doing just to confirm this? open media center 12, install a skin for a older version of media center and then mess with the options and auto import e.t.c and tell me if you get any error messages.

That log points to a WMDM problem. (the Windows handheld system)

Try unplugging handheld devices and removing memory cards to see if it makes any difference.

Also, try Windows Update to make sure the Windows Media components are up to date.
