Got an 8GB Nano?
« on: February 22, 2007, 10:54:13 am »

Who out there has an iPod Nano 8GB?  Please tell me your conversion settings, perhaps average file sizes, average bitrate, do you use VBR, etc?  How many songs can you fit?  Remember they claim 2K but that is obviously if you use the atrocious 128 Kb bit rate.

Right now, I have 1,356 songs and am essentially full with 3.3 MB free.  I was hoping I'd be able to get just a little more on it but perhaps I need to lower my quality settings.  I was wondering if my cover art was adding a lot of data but those filesizes aren't much more than 1MB/minute, which is close to 128 Kb.  My average file size is around 1.3MB/minute.  I'm using Normal MP3 target quality.

I've got one! ;D

I set my conversion to Mp3 Encoder - VBR Encoding - Small Portable and can fit about 2,200 songs!!!  I couldn't tell the difference in sound quality.  Prior to that I had it at about 1,400 songs.  I don't do any caching as my songs don't change too much, its just the smartlists that sort of re-order where songs on the portable go.
