With decreasing tempo, I understand how it can sound lacking because it is spreading the same number of frames out.  However, when speeding up playback, it also sounds somewhat strange.  I was wondering how it actually speeds up playback?  Perhaps it just calculates which frames of audio to play.  What if it did something like that but also combined adjacent frames so some audio is not simply dropped?  I really like speeding up slower songs if it makes them more interesting but it brings the lacking artifact that harms the overall auditory experience.  Not really sure on this issue so I'm just looking for input.
