Media Center crashing during playback
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:25:15 am »

I am running Media Center 12s latest version however have had this problem since i bought the program. After it has been running for a little while if i go to skip tracks back or forward or click on a specific track, the program stops responding, i have followed the instructions on reinstalling and this does not work. I love this program and want to use it, it has the best features of any media player, i just wish i could get it to work properly. Any ideas ?

What file types are you playing?

Try disabling DSP, display, and 3rd party plugins.

Try updating your QuickTime player (by default, MC uses QuickTime to player Apple proprietary files) or get DirectShow filters for these files so MC can play them natively.

Another alternative would be to convert your proprietary Apple files to a more universal format.  You'll have better luck with nearly all non-Apple software afterwards.

Quicktime is up to date, is this a common problem ? i have uninstalled norton and am running avg now, are there any issues with klite codec packs ? i am also running on a complete clean install now.

i use itunes files for convenience however for a player jrmc is far superior and i would much prefer to use it to play all my files. one of the reasons i bought it was because it could play protected files.

also i am wondering about compatible dvd decoders, i dont want to install showtime, powerdvd etc if i am to use jrmc for dvd playback, however almost none of the posts have information about what you actually can use, i am abit dubious about klite and other codec packs, but do not want to install a complete dvd playback program just so i can watch them with jrmc. do you have any ideas about what works well ?

ok installed nero, the dvd decoder is incompatible which is dissapointing because i really didnt want to install showtime, however, have installed cccp as per glynors posts, dvd playback ok unsure, music ala m4a and m4p still playing, seems to be slow skipping tracks however but unsure if this is related to cccp or collection - i have about 5000 tracks. Nonetheless without nortonIS, klite codec pack full and Intervideo dvd copy(do not buy it is crap) and its horrible virtual drive, so far no crashes!
