Artists listed a lot of times.
« on: February 24, 2007, 07:32:24 pm »

I hooked up my ipod just there after downloading .179 and when I disconnected it and check it all the artists with 'The' at the start of their name are listed about 10 times the spelling is the same for each one. How do I get rid of this?

Can anyone second this problem? I updated the iPod and I updated Media Center 12 to .179 around the same time before this happened. So I am not sure which caused it. It is a 60GB 5G Video iPod, Black.

I'll test it for you to see if I get the same issue.

How do you have your sorting options set?  Ignore Articles checked?  I'm not sure this makes a difference.

OK, I ran some tests.

First of all, my configuration follows:
MC 12.0.179
XP sp2
iPod 5.5 generation 80gb with firmware 1.2.1

I tested it 2 ways: Sorting Ignore Articles checked and unchecked - there is no difference in the results.

In both cases I initialized the iPod before I started.  I used 4 artists.  2 artists had The (e.g. The Beach Boys) in their name, 2 did not.

In both tests, the results were OK.  I did not have any artist listed multiple times.

I would suggest the following:
1) Verify if you have the latest iPod firmware
2) Initialize the iPod and do a small test to see if you can still repeat it.

I ran one more test.  The first set of tests were based on 4 artists.  I added a 5th artist so I could create the following pattern:

Artist a
The Artist b
The Artist c
Artist d
The Artist e

I thought that having multiple artists starting with The sorted next to one another could be part of the problem.  But I still could not duplicate your problem.

I just did a full sync of almost 15,000 tracks.  I still cannot duplicate your problem.

Maybe the sync is slightly overlimit?  Try initializing the iPod and leaving 10GB open (just to test).

I get the same thing. It only happens with artist with "The" in the names. I even use MC to auto rename the artists like "Beatles, The." It shows up under B, naturally, but 11 times. Annoying.

Brand new 80G iPod, MC 12, XP Pro SP2,  etc.

This sounds kind of similar to a problem a while back;

I don't have this problem either with around 9000 tracks. I'd recommend upgrading to the latest MC12, initialising your iPod, then transferring just the tracks you're having problems with, along with a few others. See what it looks like then.
