Importing only certain files
« on: March 14, 2007, 09:11:00 am »

I would like to import only 4* and 5* titles into a new database.
Is this possible in MC?

If not, i can clone and delete from an existing database.
But when i do this, i find no way to compact the resulting database.
It has the same size as if no records had been deleted.
This is quite time consuming if you had many records in the original database.

What can i do?

The library keeps records of deleted files if you have the Ignore files previously removed from library option selected for any of your folders in the Auto-Import list.

If you uncheck that option for each of your Auto-Import folders, and then re-run the Run Auto Import Now tool, it should remove those irrelevant links from the new cloned library.

It would be nice if we had a manual way to clear out the dreck (perhaps inside the File --> Library --> Library Manager dialog), but there isn't one currently.

I posted a smartlist based workaround here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=28266.msg196517#msg196517. I have used that system since then.

The library keeps records of deleted files if you have the Ignore files previously removed from library option selected for any of your folders in the Auto-Import list.

I can't find this option. Where is it now? (running v12.0.225)

Edit: Never mind. Found it.  I think I would prefer it were one setting under Tools > Options > Library & Folders
