Vista - iPod eject not really ejecting

When I click the eject button in MC, the iPod goes back to the interface - but doesn't show as ejected either by MC or Windows.  It still shows up (and is browsable) in the device menu of MC, and still shows up as connected in Windows. 

After disconnecting in Windows it drops from the MC interface.
