MJ8 crashes when I try to play a CD
« on: May 24, 2003, 08:07:53 am »

A few days ago MJ8 started crashing when I tried to play a CD.  It crashes when YADB does not recognize the CD, which is often.

I followed the advice in one post and upgraded to build 399, but MJ still crashes.

I followed the advice in another post and unchecked "Enable on-line CD lookup" in Settings -> Options -> Device Settings, but that also didn't help.

At the time the problem began, had you installed any new software recently?

I installed Total Recorder about 3 weeks ago, and have been using MJ's Media Editor to edit the resulting files.

But I have used MJ8 since that time to play CDs that YADB doesn't recognize.  So I can't directly connect installing Total Recorder with this recent problem with MJ8 crashing.

I would move the coverart folder, uninstall, rename the J river dir if it is still there and then re-install, move the cover art folder back and then reimport

OK, uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have solved the problem.  MJ8 is recognizing CDs again.  Thanks.

I have un-installed and re-installed MJ8 8.0.399; however, MJ8 continues to crash whenever I attempt to play any CD.  Interestingly, this behavior continues even though I turn off "Enable on-line CD lookup" in the options settings.

Here is the error message I receive when MJ8 crashes:

Mine does the same thing.  I took a much less technical approach.
When you insert the cd hold down the shift key.
Wait about 10-15 seconds
Start MJ and manually go to the cd and play it that way.
I know it's not as convenient as simply putting in a cd, but at least it works.

tim0393 & FengShuiDCU

you guys may have auto incert\auto play turned on and may be crashing from that.

since both of you are running windows 98 they also maybe related to that and the OS.

Windows XP handles all this a bit better
