Vista bug may corrupt iPod upon ejecting
« on: April 20, 2007, 08:43:53 am »

I think this is worth a sticky to warn ipod users.

Extract of the article published on 28 march 2007:

Quote
Microsoft Tuesday released several fixes for Windows Vista bugs, including one involving the ubiquitous iPod music player that Apple didn’t fix in an iTunes update three weeks ago.

The most prominent of the five-pack of patches is the one that prevents data on iPods from being corrupted if users select Safely Remove Hardware from the system tray to eject the player. That command is what most Windows users call on before unplugging a USB device.

Maybe someone from JRiver/MC12 development can tell how MC12 ejects an ipod. According to M$ iTunes is unaffected by this bug so I am wondering how MC12 ejects (is it the "windows/explorer" way or the "itunes" way?).

However, last night my ipod got corrupted when I ejected from iTunes. Maybe not this bug but I will test the hotfix nonetheless and update this post with the results.

Result update: my ipod just got corrupted again.  :-\
