How do you construct a lossy copy?
« on: September 06, 2007, 10:12:55 am »

I'm starting to build a lossy copy of my library, or at least I thought I was.

I decided to use Mp3 at VBR High and attempted to use the Convert Format tool.

Obviously I don't want to transcode files that are already lossy; I 've run into two problems:

1. The move function doesn't copy files that are not to be transcoded. They are completely ignored.

2. Anything other than Mp3, OGG or MPC etc., is going to be transcoded.

Are there options in the Sync feature that allow me achieve a lossy copy of my archives; anything FLAC or APE > Mp3 VBR? I've only messed with the Sync a little bit so I'm not sure.

thanks

Looks like the Sync options will work. It's been awhile since I sifted through the relevant threads.

Do we list Unsupported Filetypes: ape, flac or .ape, .flac

If you are creating a virtual handheld you must list the supported file types. The filename extensions should be listed like this:

mp3;m4a;mpc;ogg;wma;wmv;avi;mpg;mpeg;jpg;gif;png

Unfortunately it does not. The Library Sync feature does not have a list for supported file types. It converts all files that are not in the target format. (Perhaps you could copy the list option from the Handheld sync.)

(a hint: preserve mp3, ogg, mpc -- convert flac, ape...)

Thanks guys. I haven't messed with the Library Sync yet. I will utilize the Handheld (virtual device) for now and try to apply it to LS later with Alex's tip.

best,
