Download Manager missing
« on: April 19, 2007, 01:50:42 pm »

Since upgrading to Media Center 12 and removing MC11 from my computer I can't use Download Manager. It doesn't appear on the menu Tools -> Advanced Tools.  :(

Anyone any idea how to get it back?

Well, you've still got your license for v11.1, right?  Later versions of 11.1 (search for exact info) are compatible with 12.x.  Better yet, Download manager is a separate app that can be launched independently of MC 11.  Sooooo . . .  If you are going to do a lot of downloading, you can fire up download manager, drag and drop files into it, and have it deliver them to your mc 12 watch folder.

Why is download manager gone?  Well, it's been gone for almost a year and you're the first person to ask about it (apart from jgreen, who has a rep as a malcontent).  So I think jriver felt it was a pruneable feature.

Fair enough. Thanks for the information. It's just a pity that JRiver hasn't updated the help file; it's got a whole chapter on how to access it and use it!

FWIW, Dowload Manager is a great little app and it's a shame to see it fade away entirely.  For dowloading from etree.org, its drag-and-drop functionality can't be beat.

JRiver, any thought to posting it on the plugin site, as a downloadable "add-on"?  I think I can guarantee you at least two downloads.  Maybe it's not as practical as the tempo/pitch modifier, but some of us (two of us) still think it has its uses.

We're married to doing downloads inside the player.

We might be able to open it up to external drag-n-drop.  However, how about adding etree.org as a web media site? (work with JimN on the beta team if there's something missing for this to work)

And rightly so--I think the pickup in convenience and ease-of-use in Web Media, etc, is substantial.  And as I pointed out, in the space of a year you've only had two people notice it's gone--contrast that with some of the protracted catfight arguments on the beta board over button placement.

Like I said, the only time I miss Download Manager is when I'm doing bulk downloads, as from etree.org.  And it's really only the dragging and dropping into a queue that I miss.  So I'll take it up with jiMn and see what develops.
