Volume Slider isn't there
« on: May 18, 2003, 02:13:17 am »

Am I missing something obvious?? The user guide shows a screenshot with a volume slider above the shuffle and continuous buttons. This is simply not there! I have just downloaded version 8.0.382

Otherwise very happy - exactly what i've been looking for - well featured and a clean interface.

You may have two sound cards (one on the motherboard).  Use the Bios to disable the motherboard sound.

Update before you do anything.  That version isn't current.

Ok, i've updated to 8.0.398.

I have a M-Audio Delta 2496 soundcard installed,  and the AC97 on-board sound is disabled in the BIOS.

Under what conditions will MJ hide the volume slider then? Should it not be there whatever?? I have a volume slider in my soundcard control panel, I'd like to use one on the MJ as well, to control the volume of the MJ relative to other applications.

Thanks

Try installing your sound card software one more time.

before i embark on the time consuming process of reinstalling my soundcard drivers and potentially messing up my cubase setup, could you briefly explain why the volume slider would be absent.

OK - if it was there but ineffective I could understand what you're getting at but I don't understand why it would be missing altogether because of my soundcard drivers.

Thanks

I have the same card and I also do NOT have a volume slider.

Are you using the S-P/DIF output?

You may also find that even the volume sliders on the cards drivers do nothing.

I think it is because it is a 'pro' card and is designed to put out a line signal to outboard gear.

Hope that helps

completely mystified as to why i cannot recieve an explanation of under what conditions the program decides not to display a volume slider. From what I can tell it's meant to be that way with certain sound cards. I don't believe there's anything to be gained from messing around with my drivers. Just keep on looking for a player with the right interface i suppose. Great service lads! Sure you'll have plenty more customers. Thanks for nothing.

I don't know the answer.  I suggested re-installing your sound card drivers.

so you'll have me messing around with my hardware configuration  just cos you can't think of anything else? i've got loads of audio apps running fine, never had problems with audio output or input, let alone bits missing from a program interface because of my drivers!

Ignore all the suggestions.
The only thing that will work is to uninstall your MJ, then reinstall.  You'll have to repeat this about once a week.
I am curious about something though, if the problem is with EVERYONE'S  sound cards and not MJ then: 1) why doesn't the volume control disappear on real player, media player, etc....  2) Why does reinstalling MJ fix it?
(see my post, Why does my volume control keep disappearing?)
