Ok, so I upgraded this evening to build 222.  I have a SmartList to transfer songs to my device.  Well, tonight I tried running it to update my Sansa, and I was getting a message that what I was trying to transfer too much.  The number was way too high.  In fact, it matched the size of my FLACs.  I experimented by transfering over a couple of files, and sure enough, it wasn't converting before moving it onto the Sansa.

So, I checked the settings.  Now, I remember in the previous version there was a setting to convert if nessicary (since I have some MP3s in my library that I don't want to reencode.  Well, it looks like the setting has changed to "Convert Unsupported Formats", whatever that means.  Well, what it seems to mean that it won't recognise that the FLACs need to be converted to MP3s.  So, setting it to "Always Convert" seems to work.

But, this is not the behavior that I want.  I want it to only convert my FLACs.  How do I get this working the way it is supposed to work?

Possibly you don't have the supported file types listed correctly in the HandHeld options.
Tools > Options > Handheld > Files & Paths > Supported File Types

For example: mp3;wma;wmv;jpg

This means that the handheld can play MP3, WMA, WMV and JPG natively. I am not sure what happens with video and image files, but the "Convert unsupported formats" option should work with audio files if a correct list is present. (It works for me. I just tried some APE, FLAC and MP3 files.)

I wonder why your "supported formats" list was changed or resetted in case my guess was correct. Did you ugrade from MC11.1 or did just install a new MC12 build on top of an older MC12 build?

It was the latter.  Thanks, I'll try that out.
