Netscape
« on: August 24, 2002, 07:59:40 pm »

This forum does not work with Netscape 4.78. Unfortunately I have to use Netscape because it supports user profiles and apparently MIE does not. I need to be able to switch between a proxy server when I am
using my company's VPN and no proxy server, or a different one when using my home computer network.  You should make sure your webpage works with both types of browsers.

Also I tried to encode .cda tracks into mp3 and it said I needed to download an encoder.  I am already registered and paid my money for  Media Jukebox Plus.  It is supposed to automatically download the plugin but instead it gives me a save as dialog box with an .mjp file,
in some directory which happens to be the last place I saved something from Netscape. OK, so I switched directory to c:\program files\J river\media jukebox and it happily deposited the .mjp file.
So when I go to Settings|Plugin Manager|Add Plug-in it asks for .dll files!! What's up with that?? Why is it so hard to do a simple thing.

What am I supposed to do with the .mjp file??  It is not automatic unless (I suppose) your default browser is Microsoft.  I could switch the default browser, but I can't remember how to do it.  And then I have to switch it back because of the profile issue mentioned above.

I normally use Opera, and JRiver tries to be as standard compliant as possible. But, when it comes to a choice between making our web page compliant and adding a new tweak/bug fix/feature to MJ, we usually choose the MJ side of things.

OK, it's not what you want to hear - but try IE. Or, try posting with a better subject.

And, open Windows Explorer, find the file you saved, and double-click on it and see if that helps.

It does SEEM hard to do some things.  For instance, you may think you are downloading a plugin when really you are downloading an installer for a plugin.

After you find your *.mjp file, double click on it.  It will then connect to the internet and download and install the actual plugin.  Why J River chose to do it this way is beyond my comprehension.

I found that my browser at work also did not work well with the MJ forum because the menu at the top uses Shockwave and my browser did not have the Shockwave plugin installed.  Also because I do not have administrator rights, I can not install it myself - so I do without the drop down menus until I get home, where I AM the administrator.

Because the mjp file does a lot more than just download the plug-in.  You can open one in notepad to see.  With this method, we can add a new plug-in that has special requirements without changing the program.
