Tivo server not starting
« on: June 03, 2007, 03:18:21 pm »

Hi,

I am trying to run the Tivo server, but it simply would not start. When I click on the "Start Server" button, nothing happens. No message is displayed in the box underneath. I have tried to re-install/reboot multiple times, I have a reset the Beacon multiple times and I tried using Auto and Manual port for the server. I even tried to disable the Vista Firewall to no avail (and also tried a different port than the default 8079).

Here's what I am getting when I reset the beacon:

06/03/07 13:04:08 - Checking TiVo Beacon installation
06/03/07 13:04:08 - Removing existing Beacon.
06/03/07 13:04:08 - Existing Beacon removed.
06/03/07 13:04:08 - Installing new Beacon.
06/03/07 13:04:08 - Starting new Beacon.
06/03/07 13:04:08 - Unregistering Beacon API.
06/03/07 13:04:09 - Installing new API.
06/03/07 13:04:09 - Registering the new API.
06/03/07 13:04:12 - Connecting to Beacon.

And then nothing. I can hit the Start Server button as many time as I want nothing happens. Tivo does not see the MC also.

I am running Vista, and I had previously being using Galleon and AudioFaucet but I all unistalled them rebooted (and even removed the beacon form the "Common Files/Tivo Shared" folder). They all worked fine with my system/tivo.

I do not know what to try next. I am willing to give this product a good try, and I can try to help troubleshoot this if you have any ideas.

I am using the latest version: 12.0.240. Other plugins such as the UPnP Server and Library Server do work though.

Thanx.

Have you tried right clicking the MC icon and doing "Run as administrator"? IIRC, you only need to do that once and after that the TiVo server should continue to work.

mesue,

Thanx for the tip. I will try that. OTOH, I installed version 11 (from the FAQ page), and it seems to be working except that I do not see my created playlists on my Tivo + it gives me a lot of:

06/03/07 15:16:58 - Bad Request: Unknown Command /TiVoConnect??Command=FlushServer
06/03/07 15:17:04 - Warning: Bad URL argument(container) Details=Basic
06/03/07 15:17:04 - Warning: Bad URL argument(container) Details=Basic
06/03/07 15:17:06 - Warning: Bad URL argument(container) Details=Basic

I will see if I can get that v12 working. My main purpose is to be able to play shoutcase radios on my tivo btw.

Thanx again,

Well I tried to put v12 back and it does not work. I do not know why. v11 seemed to work somewhat except that I could not see my created playlists (but just the Top Hits and Recently played ones).

I will give it a last try under v11, and see if I can get my shoucast streams to my Tivo.

Thanx for nay help.

If you still had V11 installed when you tried v12, seems like that's inviting trouble. I think I would remove all instances and try a clean install of v12.

Here's a link to a previous thread where I got it working under v12:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=39475.msg268826#msg268826

The last post there also has a link to the Wiki.

Good luck.

mesue,

I never had both versions installed at the same time. I actually downloaded v12 first, and then tried v11. I will try again with v12. but it looks like v11 is working where v12 is not. What is weird is that NO message at all is posted in the log box when I click on the Start Server button in v12.

Thnx.

Nono - please try the exact set of steps described here:

http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/TiVo#TiVo_and_Vista

If that doesn't work, and you are seeing absolutely nothing in the status window, please try setting the debug option as described here:

http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/TiVo#Debugging_Information

and report the results.

Thanks,

j

hi John,

I have tried pretty much everything that I could think of. I have tried to run both the desktop shortcut and the actual .exe in Administrator mode (as well as XP SP2 compatibility mode) - to no avail. Nothing shows in the debug window.

I have the folliwng in my registry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 12\Plugins\Interface\TiVo Server]
"PluginMode"=dword:00000000
"Debug"=dword:00000001
"Auto Port Selection"=dword:00000001
"Port"=dword:00001f8f
"Server Name"="Arnaud"

When I hit Reset Beacon I get this:

06/04/07 19:41:54 - Checking TiVo Beacon installation
06/04/07 19:41:55 - Removing existing Beacon.
06/04/07 19:41:56 - Existing Beacon removed.
06/04/07 19:41:56 - Installing new Beacon.
06/04/07 19:41:57 - Starting new Beacon.
06/04/07 19:41:57 - Unregistering Beacon API.
06/04/07 19:41:58 - Installing new API.
06/04/07 19:41:58 - Registering the new API.
06/04/07 19:42:01 - Connecting to Beacon.

Hitting the Reset Beacon button again (without exiting MC12) crashes the app. Also, each time I click on the Audio button I have the Import dialog box. May be this is related  - a permission problem in the registry?

Again, MC11 works with my tivo, and UPN and Library server works fine.

Thanx for any help,

Arnaud.

I'm having the same issue with Tivo server not starting and nothing showing in the logging window.  I'm using WinXP SP2 and I've tried MC 12.240 and 251.  Both versions do nothing when the "Start Server" button is hit.     When I try to restart the beacon it appears to restart, but then I get a popup box asking to reboot the computer for the Tivo server to work.

Rebooting doesn't improve anything.   Adding the DWORD Debug to the  Tivo Server Registry didn't help either.

I've been a long time customer (MJ 6,7,8,9, & 10) over the years, but I hate to say MC12 didn't seem like much of a step forward.   The Tivo server seems to be a big step backwards.  >:(

I never tried MC11, but the TIVO server in 10 worked fine with the minor problem of having to tell my Tivo about the server frequently.

I'm looking forward to this feature working in MC 12 sometime soon - till then, its back to 10 for me.

Cheers,

Derek

Hi Derek - I'm very sorry. The bug was introduced right around 12.0.240, and I fixed it today. Drop me an e-mail (gateley @ jriver.com) if you'd like to try it out, it won't come out of beta for a few days.

Using version 253 the Tivo interface worked great.   It even fixed the annoying problem I was hoping for where I had to re-enter the IP address on the TIVO to find  the server.

The only problem I've had was a repeatable crash on importing my MP3 collection.  I was able to work around it by doing the import in smaller parts.   I'll start another thread with the details.

I'll be upgrading for sure!   Thanks John for the fast fix.
