I use Theater View to launch movies and play them in Theatertek. To do this, I have the media type set to Data. When I click play, I would like the playlist to either clear or stop so that music playing doesn't continue to play once the external player launches. I have tried to set the behavior in Tools > Options > General, but it does not affect files that have a media type of data. Are there any suggestions or idea for this behavior?

If you play the DVD inside Theater View, other playback will stop.

In Theater View I get a very small picture, but in Display View I get the fullscreen. 

I really want to use Theatertek at this time. Some use a DVD player connected directly to a projector. Others use a scaler between the player and projector and have a constant height setup. The DVD player works for most people (just like MC). For those that want some other features, there is Theatertek. It is like adding another device to my playback chain. Right now there are only two things that keep it from working perfectly.
 
I also tried to play my movies in a playlist with a slide show before the movie starts. The slides play fine, but the movie will not start even if it is in the playlist (when it has a media type of data). I realize that a playlist can't keep track of other programs, so it doesn't know when to trigger the next item in a playlist. However, it would be nice if it could start a Data item if that item is last in the playlist.

We've done a lot of DVD work in MC 12.  MC now supports any decoders, any video mixer (including evr), zone targetted audio, etc.

I assume you know you can change Options --> Theater View --> Jump on Play to Display View (If Has Display) and then MC will play DVDs in full screen mode, right?

Pretty simple, but you never know...

I agree with the original poster that TheaterTek is much nicer for playing DVDs. Here are the things that are missing in MC12 for DVD playback.

• No change of subtitles possible via remote control.
• Lot of functions (subtitle change for example) are only accessible via mouse in tiny text. Noone can use it from a couch sitting 10' away unless they have 10/10 vision or 100 inches TV.
• Poor OSD. Compare MC12's white text on grey background indicating (Pause/+5x/-5x) to the play controls/seek time translucent display of TheaterTek
• No ability to definite custom aspect ratios.
• No ability to remember aspect ratio for each individual movie.

It's little things like this that I find missing in MC12's DVD playback. Still, I do like the direction in which it is improving (like adding aspect ratio change support via keyboard - that has helped me a lot). But, it is still not there for ease of use for DVD playback.

In addition, I like the following about Theatertek:

• Ability to play a file while it is being recorded and keep an updated timebar. I record HDTV programs with a MyHD MDP-130. I then play them back timeshifted by about 15 minutes and watch them with Theatertek.
• Ability to jump forward (x) seconds and backyard (y) seconds with the remote and being able to change (x) and (y). This allows you to timeshift sports and adjust the jump forward/backward for skipping timeouts or the time between plays in football.
• I can have Theatertek start a movie either from the beginning, from where last watched, or prompt me for where I want it to start.
• Ability to change deinterlacing methods with the remote.
• Using fullscreen windows renderless with Theatertek, the picture is better than with MC, even if using the same video/audio decoders.
• Ability to save proc amp settings for each movie. I don't usually do this, but some kid's movies seem to be need extra changes.
• Ability to set which file types you want to allow ffdshow post processing
• I paid for it and don't want it to sit unused on my computer.

Is there a way to pull up the OSD that is shown when you pause while playing a DVD to see how much time is remaining?  It would also be good if this OSD used the overscan setting in TheaterView since it is cut off by my tv.

Related to the play behavior when launching an external program is the play behavior when adding custom items to the Theater View homepage. If I want to use Theater View as a front end, I need to set when playback stops.

For example, I have a MyHD MDP-130 HDTV tuner card for OTA broadcasts. The card can only work with its own software. I created a button to launch the program, which is fullscreen. In this instance, I don't want Theater View to loose focus since the MyHD outputs to the screen via its own DVI output. When Theater View looses focus, the the desktop is shown for several seconds while the program is loading.

If I am listening to music, I want Theater View to pause the playlist while I launch this external program. This behavior would also be required for launching games or other programs with sound. When launching a word processor program, though, I want the music to continue to play.
