  • nothing more to say...

I'm still using MediaJukebox v8.385 (fully licensed with a version 9 license) and it has worked flawlessly for me for some time.  I was going to upgrade to media center once upon a time but read on these posts that there was a library issue and I seem to remember that I would lose my playlists.  Is that true if I upgrade to MC12?

I have built a Core2Duo machine and am using a Gigabyte 965G motherboard and am using their SATAII controller chip to interface with my CD burner on the only IDE port the motherboard has. The cd burner is relatively new and is configured as the master as it is the only device on the IDE port.

MJ now hangs while trying to access the burner.  I've put another burner (known good) and the same thing happens.  After several restarts, hardware deletes etc., I finally got MJ to burn one cd, but now it won't burn again.

Is MJ too old to know where to look for the hardware handles?

What will I lose on my playlists etc if I upgrade to MC?  Would I only lose the normalizing that I have done on my library?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think it is now, i think they removed the library upgrade routines in mc12 for MJ8

But you could

1. make a backup of MJ8 and all playlists

2. download mc11 and install

3. download MC 12 install

I really can't say anything about your burner problem, but I have tested MJ8 -> MC9-11 upgrading a couple of years ago.
I posted my upgrade instructions here (you may want to read the whole thread):

For some reason MC12 does not have a MJ8 library converter anymore.
However you can install MC11.1 first and create a new library backup file for MC12.

The last version of MC11.1 is available here: ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/old/MC111201.exe

Edit

King posted while I was searching the old "upgrade instructions" link...

Most likely to lighten the code up a bit.

since this year it will be 5+ years since MJ8 was released, and 4+ years with a minor DRM fix in 8.x.400, MJ8 may hit the bit bucket.

It does have a generic CD burner, but it has been reported to be non-compatible with some newer burners.

Media Center 12 is so much better than MJ8 it is hard to compare them head to head. That is even true with other main stream players.

We know that very well, but some users may have tried MJ8 and bought the license without even knowing that MC12 is a much better program with audio too.

We should not forget that MJ8 with "plus features" is still available for purchase, unlike MC9, MC10 and MC11.

If I had recently bought MJ8+ without fully understanding the difference to MC12 I would be a happier customer if could easily keep my already created library when upgrading.

Using MC11.1 as a library converter is not difficult, but you need to be aware of that possibility first.
