« on: July 15, 2007, 01:14:56 am »

Yes J River,
There Are Accually Users Of Media Center Who Are Running Computers With Microsoft Windows Vista.....
Please Get On With Life And Stop Thinking That Win XP Ended The Trilogy....
Not Happy With MC12--Experincing Crashes A Plenty Within MC12---Planning Patches For 12 Or A New Version Of MC,That's Acctually Designed For Use Specifally Within Vista?, As It Appears That V12 Is Not Designed For Anything Above XP.

Ahm, ......liveitup why do you make 2 posts. You can also ask in this one. I don't support your idea. They must stop the support for xp  - for only a few Vista users who have problems. I myself tried Vista for a month and never had problems with MC12 , but of course with Vista - so I switched back to Xp until Vista is stable in my eyes.

I am currently running Vista, and am NOT having issues with MC12 not playing well.  Are you sure it is not a CODEC issue?

liveitup, there has been loads of updates for MC since Vista came out
which specifically deal with Vista issues.

I'm running MC on vista here with no problems what so ever now.

I can't say I'm running Vista itself with no problems what so ever.

See if you can provide more information about some of the crashes.
Are they reproducable in any form? Which version of MC 12 are you running?

The codec issue is a good guess.   Read about DirectShow in the FAQ near the top of the board.

Try importing only a single file type like MP3 into a test library.

Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

Describing the crash might help.

Turn on logging under MC Help and get a log.  Look for "crash" in it.

I removed the other similar post.

Hm, well I've been posting elsewhere about the issues I'm having (even with the latest release of MC) under Vista, so there definitely are some.

For instance, DVD ripping in MC12 just causes Vista to say after a few minutes that MC has stopped working.

And reliably, when MC12 goes to auto-import stuff (and these days the only stuff it's importing is Napster downloads) the same thing happens.

OK, I'm not jumping to his defence at all - clearly it doesn't make sense to say there are loads of issues without reporting what they are. But then he's clearly new to this internet thang :-)

I am not having any problems with Vista or MC running on it. I am very satisified with both Vista and MC.

Guess I lead a charmed life.
No problems with Vista or with MC under Vista.
Imports, plays, uses DirectX plugins.

liveitup, FYI - I've upgraded both my PC's running MC12 (one is a dedicated HTPC, the other the Main Family PC) to Vista after alot of testing.  I found there are issues with both Vista and XP but on balance I have found that for me Vista is a better platform for MC12 than XP.

The Vista/MC12 issues I see are:
1) In T'View you sometime see the Vista Desktop:  Sometimes when playing Videos, T'View will disapear for a few seconds before the video starts letting you see the Vista Desktop
2) T'View loss of focus / not in front:  I've not had this for a while but sometime (not sure how) MC would lose focus so RC commands will not work till I "Alt-Tab" back to MC12.  Even odder is when MC12 appears to be on the top, and does have focus yet the bottom windows menu bar is visible - again "Alt-Tab" will fix but not ideal as this needs the K'Board to come out...
3) MC12 Hanging / Non-Responsive:  If I'm playing with filter selections I can get MC12 to Hang / become Non-Responsive easily.  Vista then pops up the "Do you want to close the non-responsive app" Diag Box, I close MC12, Start it again, change my poor filter selection!

So my guess is it is a bad filter combo that your suffering - the great thing is the MC12 lets you pick and choose these - no other app lets you work around these problems!

Thanks
Nathan
