AC3/Dolby Digital over S/PDIF out in Vista 64
« on: July 20, 2007, 05:59:51 pm »

So from what I've been reading, Vista has a new audio stack with a new feature called "Exclusive Mode," which allows applications take direct control of the soundcard.  Apparently the application must be written to take advantage of a new API called WASAPI.  However, the application must be native 64 bit to take advantage of the new API in Vista 64.  Because the audio stack has changed, the old method for getting digital signals out the SPDIF port is no longer there.

I'm able to play AC3 content over the 64bit version of Windows Media Player, but not the 32bit version of it (as well as not being able to play it over JRiver).  Is there a way I can make JRiver use a 64bit process for the audio playback?  Or would there need to be 64bit compiled version of JRiver?

Most of the information I got about this subject was from this thread: http://ac3filter.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1445&sid=524518e127d705050e9da046a47e6cbb

Thanks for any help,
