Non-duplicate songs appear as duplicates?
« on: July 23, 2007, 02:54:40 am »

I'd been library-juggling using a combo of iTunes and j.River recently, something I've done a couple of times and it's sometimes ended up in duplicate tracks. I set a smart playlist to show me the dupes and was deleting them... until I realised that the dupes shown by j.River were the same files. i.e. in deleting the dupes, I was deleting the originals and the other file shown now pointed at the already deleted file.

There are 'real' dupes in there, but until I look at the filename I won't know if it's a real dupe.

A few choice words and a restore from a backup later followed by a library re-import, nothing has changed. What gives? Thanks.

iTunes used to copy files it found to a new location.  I don't know if it still does that, but this could explain the problem.

No, I've seen this problem before also.  I can't remember what I did to cause it, so I only reported it once, but never heard anything until this.

I can confirm that MC can show duplicate files in MC, but both show the exact same filename, including the path, and deleting one of the files will, in fact delete the only copy from the database.

The only way I was able to delete the 'dups' was to delete one of them, but not tell it to delete permanently, just delete from MC (can't remember the exact wording).
